I have come across more than one of these consoles before. Does anyone have any idea how many "000/850" consoles were released?

I know that Petit-Prince on these forums has one. I have one & I've seen another one on the Sega-Bits twitter feed.

I'm curious to know if anyone has any more information on these "000" numbered consoles??

    Thanks

ts's post seems to imply there are multiple 000 numbered units?

There were 500 of the HMV exclusive clear Seaman consoles made (released 29 July 1999), and 850 of the red Xmas Package Seaman consoles produced (released 16 December 1999) - they're totally separate consoles. There should have been a certificate in it stating that. I believe it was sold through Sega Direct. I don't know what else there is to say about it, really.

I think we have a misunderstanding here. The thing is that there are red Seaman consoles out there that are numbered, and those are obviously all unique (e.g. 811/850, 428/850, etc). But there are also multiple red Seaman consoles out there sharing the very same serial number of "000/850".

But if there were 850 of the Xmas consoles made, and they are all numbered (i.e., 001/850, 002/850 through 850/850), wouldn't any numbered 000/850 increase the total amount made? Or did they just make printing mistakes on a bunch of them?

Usually the '000' numbered items of any limited-run item are advance copies/prototypes/samples/artist's proofs/etc... Not to be counted as part of the normal run... I think that's what he's asking about. Typically if they are just meant to be 'samples', there's usually less than a dozen of them (this generally applies to any numbered collectible, not necessarily DC or even gaming). I don't have any DC specific knowledge here, just what I've run across with collectibles of all types.

[edit] Heh, beat me to it... :livid:

Correct. retro obviously didn't read my post properly.

The console is limited to 850. But there are multiple "000" consoles. What I am asking is, does anyone know how many specific "000" consoles were made? Because there is more than one around...

Or perhaps you didn't write your post clearly. Had you said "I have come across more than one console with this NUMBER before", then it would have been an interesting debate. You didn't specify that... don't expect everyone to know what you mean. Post clearly! ;)

It's obviously out of the main run, so I'm afraid you're never going to know how many were made. Unless you're in Sega's archive, there's no accessible record of that... and I highly doubt even Sega could answer that.

It's a bit of a shame, really, isn't it? Make a limited edition... then knock a few more off. Were these 000 consoles fully boxed etc. or console only?

I'd hazard a guess that the 000 ones were consoles given away in competitions... that may explain it.

Not sure if you are being serious or not?

All the 000 consoles are full boxed and even come with a numbered certificate.

Deadly serious. For anyone unaware of the consoles numbered 000, your post did not mention them clearly. A good post would have read:

"I've noticed that several of this limited run of 850 consoles were numbered 000."

Whereas saying you've come across several of "these consoles" doesn't explain anything.

You're absolutely right - you'll probably never find out. As I said before, the only person who could answer you would be the person who ordered them or the person who stuck the stickers onto them/printed the stickers. And I doubt they hang out in an English forum.

Fair enough. I was going to ask my friend who worked in Sega in the Dreamcast era if he could find out for you, but you have a piss poor attitude and I really don't want to help you now.

    Good luck, anyway.

Considering you struggled to read the first post correctly numerous times I'm sure you wouldn't even be able to ask him the correct question. Thanks.
