Hadn't seen this 1993 video until recently. Looks like the video has some footage of early Raiden, Cybermorph, Trevor Mcfur and some kind of side scrolling beat em up that might just have been a proof of concept demo in addition to a bunch of demos of random 3d objects and sprite rotation etc.
This is cool - could the side scroller be an early prototype of Kasumi Ninja perhaps? I also spotted some early footage of the Western stage from Club Drive..it doesn't look much better in the final game haha!
Cool looking demo. Looks almost like they had textures, but the only game I can think of that has anything close to textures on the Jaguar was MYST(I might be wrong about that though).
There were a number of games that had textures, e.g. Alien Vs Predator, Wolfenstein, Doom. Don't confuse polygons with textures
Skyhammer, Hoverstrike, Battlemorph, World Tour Racing, Missile Command 3D were some other Jag 3d polygon games with textures. There are probably more than that, I've read that towards the end of the Jag's life, atari management were really pressing developers to add textures to their games in a desperate attempt to compete with what was coming up for the new 32 bit systems.
Sorry for my confusing-ish comment. I forgot that doom and wolfenstein were on the jaguar, most of the games I saw had only flat color filled polygons. I am in no way any form of authority when it comes the Jaguar. I communicate ideas better over speech that I do text.
No problem by me, there certainly are a number of goraud shaded untextured 3d graphics type games on jag as well.
cool find kind of a cheesy video but it sort of fits the ol jaguar i miss mine though my favorite game on it was actually a homebrew shmup i was pretty good at and competed with atariage folks for high score with
Ha, that scrolling beat-em-up at 1:12 clearly has sprites ripped from SF2. It's Ryu with stuff drawn on top. The roundhouse kick and walking animation is a dead giveaway.
I agree it definitely looks like the sprite is based on Ryu. I think for 1993, this video would not have been cheesy Certainly the 3D polygon stuff would have seemed pretty next level. I like how they do a wavy effect on the under the sea background, that coupled with the 3d objects going toward you looks like some good graphics for the time.
