Hello all. I could use a little help and your expertise. Question 1 I recently sold a Jag CD to someone and it was thoroughy tested prior to shipping. Once received, the buyer let me know that the Jag CD reads Jag carts fine, displays the boot screen but the CD drive does not spin. The CD emits a 'clicking' noise (his words). I let him know to try applying light pressure on the CD lid to see if that was the issue (that little clip coming a bit loose during transit?). I pack my items very well, so I don't think this is the case. Thoughts? Question 2 On the FM Towns Marty 2, is their a special write setting that is required to be able to read CD back-ups of their games on the system (I sold this to the same buyer - I am not sure on this and am chekcing for him). Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey, I am the buyer. I am a member here also Marriot_Guy. The advice on the Jag is working but it still making the clicking noise then stops when the game loads. He did pack real well with lots of bubble wrap and paper and air backs. This is the info I found on the clicking problem http://www.linkovitch.me.uk/jaguar/cdrepair/ticking-laser.html
Hey there David - I wasn't aware you were a member here. Guess my email to you was a bit redundant letting you know about this site. The link you posted is interesting - I had not heard that before. I'll be interested in hearing if this is probably the root cause.
I use clonecd and click the protected pc game tab when burning copies. Although every copy I've ever burnt has been with an image made in clonecd from an original I own. Yet to have a back-up that didn't work perfectly. Can't say about other images out there.
Jaguar CD drives have always been known to be finicky, even reading original games. I know there is some sort of fix out there somewhere. I once had a Jaguar CD system that didn't spin the disc, but I remember way back doing something to lift up the circular spinning thing on the tray and it fixed it. I don't think it's the seller's fault, as it was sort of common for Jaguar CD systems to work one day, and maybe not the other. For burning Jaguar CD, I know I used to use DiscJuggler back in the day...
