Before I begin, I do not intend on selling this PlayStation 3 (they are a rare find with this original firmware). I just don't know the true value of this console, which is why ask the Assembler community. Let me know your thoughts!

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this (let me know and I will move it to the proper area), but I currently own a 2007 PlayStation 3 60GB CECHC02 (March 23rd, 2007 launch model, hence the 7A date code and not the rather elusive 7B one) that currently runs OFW 2.76 (never been jailbroken, ever and as far as I'm aware, it was the second last update before they jumped to 3.00 in 2009; the same year this update came out. Sorry for the geek speak. Anyway...), still possesses its original Seagate Momentus 60GB hard drive (never upgraded to a higher storage size nor has it ever had an SSD. It's operation is perfect and has never been corrupted), still has the card reader slot door intact (from what I've seen, some of them have randomly snapped off. Build quality issue or lack of care from owner?) and up until December, 2018, it had the warranty sticker (I took it off due to the laser failing in the Blu-Ray drive. Common problem). Everything works perfectly and has very minor surface scratches on Piano Black finish (except for the bottom where the previous owner put a deep scratch on it, causing the black to turn to white). What would be a good estimated value on this particular unit? I look forward to everyone's responses!

    Kind regards,

I have a 1,76 NTSC unit in the same condition. Sadly the market value is more or less the same as a generic backward compatible PAL PS3. Low firmware has no interest anymore, after the last development with ps3xploit you do not even need an hardware flasher anymore, and the PAL unit have a less compatible PS2 emulator.

It is indeed sad. The thing that I loved about the original PlayStation 3 firmware before they "redesigned" it (more like ruined) is that the original startup still provides a lot of enjoyment (at least the symphony doesn't sound artificial) and the original PlayStation 3 game start screen (that was awesome in my opinion). That's the only reason I intend on keeping it alive with this firmware. I read somewhere that Sony gave us partial backwards compatibility due to the fact the console was costing too much initially (I think they lost around AU$300 on each one they sold). At least I have a Test/Debugging Station PlayStation 3 to enjoy some of the PlayStation 2 games that aren't compatible with our PAL models. I heard that the firmware your one has was way before they even considered creating a system clock or an in game XMB. Is that true? I might end up downgrading each 60GB I have to a lower one (max I'll go to is 2.80), only thing is though, what risks are involved in doing so? (And do I have to update to the latest firmware to downgrade?)

    Kind regards,

    FromAllAspects

EDIT: Actually, I was going to ask. What type of PlayStation 3 do you have? A 20 or 60GB?

I have a 60gb. I remeber powering it on only a couple of times. It was barely used but I know I will have to delid CPU and GPU if I want to be reliable in everyday use so I kept on a shelf until I will have more time to play. I do not remeber much about the screen but I didn't notice anything special in comparison to the other ps3 I Own. For playing I use a superslim and for ps2 games an original ps2.

I guess it did have an acquired taste. What does de-lidding the RSX and the Cell do? Does it make much of a difference in terms of fan output and temperature?

    Kind regards,

You have to delid them and replace the thermal paste.
It makes a huge difference. I had a PS3 that sounded like a jet and only ran for a couple mins. After delidding and new thermal paste, it runs silently for hours.
