It's that time of year again. Once more we will be having our console modding contest. From the basic to the crazy and humorous, show us what you've been up to all year. Please post your entry along with some small note about it!
Cool thing! Lets start with my little N64 Mod. I buy an NTSC/jp limited edition and build in an NTSC/us board for RGB output. After that i overclock the CPU up to 120MHz. As CPU cooler i use an plate from my old 486er. An better thermal compound from Arctic was use for Rams, cpu and gpu. Small plates between the GPU and RAM for contact with the upper heatskin was build in. The N64 is complete. No part is missing for space or so. The Controller is from the UK Goldeneye Edition. I Also build in 3 blue LEDs for cosmetics. The N64 runs great and looks good in dark rooms. Hope you like it too. Here some pics:
Here's some work I did this year with 3DO hardware. The modifications: - Integrated DAC-based RGB decode (different than existing solutions) - SPDIF digital audio over coax I wanted to have these 100% complete by mid-year, but got behind. The modifications are fully functional, but I haven't spent the time required to get the SPDIF off of the breadboard and everything nicely packaged inside of the console. I also haven't documented the procedure like I want to for other people to follow if desired. Pics:
well, mine isn't really any tech sawwy or even all that fancy to begin with, but i like it and hopefully you guys too. (i just posted this on hacks 'n mods before i saw this thread). it's a PAL snes painted matte black with the faceplate layered with carbon fiber decal (jeez that stuff is overpriced btw). there's the typical 50/60Hz and PAL/region disabled switches at the front too. I kinda wanted to put them like they are for ease of access and so that it would look a bit "modded", little did i know what sort of mistake i was doing since now the wires go from the upper side of the case to the CPU so it's almost impossible to open the console anymore. I just need to hope i don't need to do that. EVER. edit: forgot that the led was also changed to blue superbright tl;dr: enjoy on a side note, are we allowed to submit more than one entry ? i kinda wanna put the oversized fan ps2 in here for the lol factor too
It was affected by the "1 minute" bug, so mods deleted it, you should ask the mods if you they still have your post.
No we don't I'm afraid. Most of the 1minute bug posts were nuked but there are a few still scatered around the board. I deleted a few more today. Yakumo
Pardon my ignorance, but is this a -best overall- contest, or different catagories? Like, best cosmetic, and best functional?
Here's my MD2 again : On the outside, looks like any other MD2, except for the white power LED... Now we lift the top and there's lot of fun revealed : Things I did this year : Here's a closeup of the sound mod which I improved last year : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/CCAMclose.jpg Here's another closeup of the TMSS bypass which I'm improving so it would not destroy Sonic3 saves (stupid ultr@ slow FeRAM chip....) http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/UltrsTMSSbypass.jpg Closeup of the LM2676 mod, 7805 alone was not enough anymore : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/TehLM2676mod.jpg Here's a bit older commented shot of the MD2 : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/MyMD2frontShotComments.jpg And last part - a lovely dark shot : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/5E6Ashot.jpg I plan on adding an internal game/BIOS sometime, I am working on a mod that allows one to use Start button on the controller as Pause in SMS mode and I plan on adding a 68010 next to the 68000, but when I find a PLCC 68010 somewhere...
