Thanks zilog. I'll give them a shot. If that doesn't work, I'll use my Jedi mind trick to get one of the UK people to buy them and send them. (Boy, that was geeky). One question though -- which ones are female? I can't tell dick from those pictures?
Maplin has been around forever, wish they had a US location because they have some stuff Jameco don't.
Yeah, there must be someone here who lives remotely near a Maplin - the only one in Ireland is in Dublin, and that's 200km away!
I'll just try to order a few. Hopefully that's the one I need. If it doesn't go through, I'll cash in a favor or something. Gotta order the 25-pin D-sub as well. While I'm here, can someone show me a specific phono connector I need? I got way too many different types when I searched at Maplin... and I really wouldn't know what it looked like in the first place.
If you don't know what a female connector looks like then don't try copulating... ^_^; Anyway parts you need.... SCART socket JW33L £1.49 25 Pin Socket YQ49D £1.29 25 Pin Hood FP29G £1.19 Red Phono FJ88V £0.49 Black Phono FJ89W £0.49 Twin Screened Audio Cable 1m XS94C £0.59 9 Way Screen Cable XS42V £0.69 Total cost (excluding postage) £6.23 Simple huh? (Assumes you have solder, soldering iron, tiny bits of cable).
I know what a female looks like, but the pictures on that site looks like silhouette's. Can't tell anyting but the outline. 0_o Thanks for the #'s... I'll order them up.
Okay, I got the monitor. There are two local guys that post (or at least did) at Shmups. One of them is pretty handy w/ this shit. Makes SuperGuns and cables on the side. His idea is actually better than a 25-pin D-sub to Scart. He basically made a 25-pin D-sub to what looks like a 9-pin D-sub, then modifies the Scart cable of each console. Seems like a lot more work, but there's no audio out on this monitor... only a jack for cables. If you want to hear it through your stereo, you need to run the audio through different cables, which is what he's done. I'll let you know what they are exactly when I get some of them.
Erm that seems a lot more work... The way I suggested means you can run Stereo sound through the monitor or you can plug the phonos into something else anyway... Given that SCART cables are probably going to be easier to find why chop them up into something that can be interchanged if you do decide in the future to get a SCART TV?
Well, I've found that getting a Scart TV here is damn near impossible unless you want to pay a shitload of money... and even then, you can't try it out before. Actually, the 9-pin connectors are actually a lot easier to get here as well. I'll probably screw around with both though, just for shits and giggles. EDIT: Can't register at Maplin. :/ I've emailed them asking what's up. Seems that their registration page is broken.
Yes but with a 25 to SCART lead then you could order SCART leads from a varity of sources without having to get someone to make up a lead for you. See the logic there.
Yeah, the only thing you'll have to make up is the adaptor to the 25-pin socket. Even if for some reason you got some Japanese 21-pin cables all you'd have to do with them is swap the pins around on the plug - and that's piss easy to do.
But wouldn't I have to rig each scart cable to get the audio out? Errr... wait. I think I understand. Make phono connectors off the one female scart lead, yeah? EDIT: Their messed up registration has me really fucked off. I figure I could get everything but the Scart connector and 9-way wire at Radio Snatch or other store in the states, but even that doesn't seem so easy. Anyone know of another shop in the UK that might have all this shit?
It'll probably be easier (and maybe even cheaper) if you get someone to get the stuff personally. Paulo said he would if you want. And as I said before (well I said it somewhere before - not sure if it was here), most SCART cables for modern consoles have RCA sockets as well, like this: But yeah, you could just wire up RCA audio jacks to the SCART socket easily enough - there's a pin for left and right audio and a common ground for audio. Actually, what systems do you plan on using it with?
I'd try to get someone to get em for you. http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk are what my college use to buy electrical bits, not sure if they'll do scarts though - Theyre more the solder n circuit board kinda shop
I plan on using it for PS2 & Saturn mainly, but also my Sigma Super Gun. The Scart cable definitely doesn't have audio jacks, but I might be able to use the Composite out for audio. I'll just have to see. This dickbags haven't emailed me back yet, so I'm going to assume they don't give a shit about my order, or the fact that their website is completely fucked. :/ I'll PM Paulo here pretty soon I guess.
Erm this is why on the SCART to 25Way connector I have added Phono Connectors so you can either plug them to the TV or plug them to a hifi... ^_^;
Yep, I know. Zilog apparently didn't catch that. He seems to think it's not absolutely necessary, but I know for a fact the Scart cable my SuperGun uses will not have any audio jacks on it.
