2D Action Games on the PC. Really good ones. Are there any?

Greetings, Fellow geeks.

I once again need your help - this time in finding great 2D games for the PC.

What are the best 2D action games for the PC? I prefer those that you can play with USB Arcade Joysticks.

I'm looking for fighting games like Vanguard Princess and Shooters like Cloudphobia, and whichever recommendations your wisdom can bestow upon me.

Shoot 'em up: Ether Vapor, Valstar, eXceed, Angeraze 2 and rebirth

 

That "Ether Vapor" looks tremendously good.

Researching as we speak.

 

And for a doujin game they made such a great job at the graphics and animation that it looks much better than many other games from big companies.
