Who here has played a 2D game, maybe a classic, whatever and thought it would just be as fun playing in a three dimensional view? For me, I always wished that the Streets of Rage 4 pitch got accepted for the Dreamcast, that would be quite interested to see how/if a beat-em up game could stay true to it's roots. What about you?
Well, I always wondered what the 2d Zelda games like Zelda 1, 2, and A Link to the past would be like in a truly 3d world.
I think something like Earthbound would have been quite fun in 3D. Maybe Phantasy Star IV as well. Personally I feel most of the large RPG's that allowed you to roam freely would have been pretty nice in a 3D environment.
Probably. Maybe even worse, since there weren't really any 3d "designs" to the Dungeons in those games, but I do remember ALTTP having some areas where you're above enemies in the same room. Oh yeah, I forgot, it might be a lot like Mario 64, but a truly 3d version of Mario 3 could be quite cool. Hmm. That or Yoshi's island.
Yes! Mario needs a design throwback to SMB3/SMW, not New SMB! Kirby needs a game that doesn't suck as well, like Dream Land 1 on extra mode, less emphasis on transformations. Hopefully the new Metroid will live up to Super, if not, Nintendo should do a GOOD job tying 1-3 into a single game. While I'm on remakes I'd like Final Fantasy 6 and 7 redone on the DS or something as well, to me they didn't age as well as FF4.
9 (?) years ago when Blue/Red were all the rage and Gold/Silver were on the horizon, I would've said Pokemon. Well if nothing else, there was Dynamite Cop.
Sega has a reputation for turning down projects its fans would love to see happen, with Streets Of Rage 4 the most high profile example. Jet Set Radio nearly got the Wii treatment, and while not strictly 2D a new Clockwork Knight was pitched a few years back for the GameCube. I for one would have loved to play that...
Streets of Rage 4 is more high profile than Shenmue III? At least the Streets games had endings... As for 2D games going 3D, I second Phantasy Star IV. Especially since it missed out on the re-drawn 2D treatment that PSI and II got a few years ago on the PS2. I'd also love to see Final Fantasy IV, V, VI and Chrono Trigger.
The difference between Shenmue III and its predecessor would not have been comparable with the leap from Streets of Rage III to its planned follow-up on Dreamcast, which is why I pointed that out as what I feel is the best-known example of an old franchise being resurrected. Besides, who would think of Shenmue in regard to this particular thread anyway, being as it is a showcase of 3D graphics? Then again, I guess Clockwork Knight was a 2.5D affair, while Jet Set Radio certainly doesn't warrant a mention either - whoops! Ending with a look back on what is very much a sprite-based game, here's to a new Gain Ground (unlikely as that may seem)...
If they remake FF7, it will PROBABLY be a PS3 only title, and they'll also try to shoehorn in all the crap from the prequels and sequels into the story. A lot of people love Crisis Core, but I've never played it. Never seen Advent Children or played that Cell phone game either....what else was there....oh yeah, there also was that game only starring Vincent.....Vincent May Cry? That said though, I'd probably get it out of nostalgia. I always liked the WEAPONS from FF7, it would be cool to see Diamond Weapon and Ultimate Weapon with better graphics and all....though I think they'd change them up a lot.
FF VII remake will be multiplatform Square will make more money that way. A DS FF VII is a license to print money. Also my submission never did post....Strider Ninja Gaiden style that needs to happen.
So even the forum software is rejecting you now? I'd love to see a classic Donkey Kong (not DKC) redone in 3D.
