Yeah, another recommendation thread. But I seriously need your help, opinions, and overall awesome taste in games. I need 2D Shooters, and 2D Action games (you know, like platformers and such) for the DS. Please tell me which are FUCKING Awesome:Rock:, and I should get. I'm really not into that fancy 3D polygon shit, cos the DS doesn't quite do it, but if it's cool and plays 2D, recommend it too. So... I'm open for suggestions.
I've played BangaiOh spirits, assuming I'd love it like I loved the Dreamcast version, but somehow it didn't deliver. Will give it another try, certainly, if it comes my way again. Contra 4, duly noted. What others?
Metal Slug 7 - However it's not fucking awesome, but if you like the series you will like the DS version too.
Nanostray 1+2 are good shooters. Personally, I find the second game is much better than the first one, but I know others will disagree. Ketsui DS is a great portable conversion of a great arcade game. It can be quite a challenge and has many things to unlock to keep you busy. The boxset also comes with a superplay DVD that has better scores than the official DVD release from INH, that alone makes it a worthwhile purchase.
Ketsui Death Label is really good. I also prefer Nanostray 2 over the first one. Commando Steel Disaster is a fairly decent Metal Slug clone. There's the Castlevania's. Konami Classic Collection has Gradius and Contra, but you could always play those on better hardware anyways. You also might like TMNT 3.
Retro Game Challenge has some 2D shooters and a few 2D action games, and other retro based games you might like, like RPGs and racing games. I'm not sure exactly how many of each though.
If you had a JPN DSi, there are a bunch of ok shooters & platfomers on there for only 200 Yen & 500 Yen. =)
No such luck, Subbie. I have a good ol' big phat DS. It is red, though, so that makes it cool. Retro Game Challenge has been noted. I've looked at it, actually, and was quite interested. Ketsui Death label as well. Is it expensive? Metal Slug 7 sounds fucking awesome to me, actually. I have both NanoStray games, and I can certainly vouch for 2 being extremely superior. I also love this Japanese game, "Bokura no TV-Game Kentei", which I find to be much better than Retro Game Challenge. That usually quenches my thirst for 2D, but I still need more. More examples, please?
