Does anyone know if the jumpers on a xbox hard drive matter , becuase all of the adapter/converters i can find on ebay dont have any?
Yes they do. They select between master, slave, cable select, and sometimes a capacity limit modes. You need the jumpers set to either master or cable select for a HDD to work in the Xbox. The drive itself doesn't have the jumper pins on it? All my 2.5" IDE drives have pins for mode selection. A 3.5" 40 pin IDE to 2.5" 44 pin IDE won't have the jumpers on it as it's only converting the IDE and power plugs. 44 pin IDE is the same as 40 pin IDE pin for pin count. The last 4 pins are for the 5V supply voltage and GND to run the drive. No jumpers to put on the adapter for mode selection. If it's converting to an SATA drive then it might have the mode selection pins. Some models do, some don't.
yeah thats what threw me , i have a sata board that has mode select jumpers on it & assumed a pata converter would also Thanks sonicdude10
Dude, if you're going to put a big sata drive in your xbox you might want to do a 12v fan mod,but watch out I did mine today and cut my finger open on that damn fan after adding 12v( I honestly didn't think that it was sharp enough or fast enough).
12V fan mod? Please. Replace the original fan with an 80mm one. I used a few old ones in different consoles running on 12V and they flow more air keeping the console cooler and also quieter.
