I got a new contact and with it i got a Sony ericsson k770i cybershot phone free, The phone is good but i don't like it for use everyday and since this is my 1st proper contract i have aquestion i can't find the answer to. Since i got this phone free with my contact can i do whatever i want with it i.e. sell it in order to buy another phone or do i need to keep it. Thanks.
the fact that you got the free phone means throughout the contract period you will be paying for the phone - nothing's really free in this world you know... Sure you can give it away or sell it but the fact that you are required to pay for it to 3 one way or the other... Also check the phone whether it's locked - if it uses the SIM the phone would be locked with the particular SIM preventing it to be used with another SIM. If it's non SIM type it'd be still locked using its identification# or somthin...
You are under zero obligation to keep the phone. You can sell it, burn it, toss it in the ocean it doesn't matter. If for whatever reason you end up canceling your contract you will not be required to return the phone. I'm sure there is some sort of early termination fee though. I'm sure the phone is locked for use on the 3 network, so I would look into unlocking it before selling as it would increase the value quite a bit.
Cheers, i'm not looking to cancel my contract or anything but i just want to change phones but unless i sell my current one i can't really afford a new one right now. I don't want to sell the phone and find out that i need it again for whatever reason in the future i.e i get a better deal down the line and cancel contract early.
read the fine print. 3 would put all the things to make as difficult as possible if you want to cancel the contract early or etc.... -___-;
I don´t like the company 3, they have screwed too many Danish customers, with their "mobile broadband".
The phone is yours..do what you want with it..but when you get your next phone to put a 3g sim in...make sure the phone is unlocked AND supports 3g or it wont work. So for e.g it wont work on the old iphone(no 3g)..you would need a unlocked iphone 3g..hope that helps!
Alright. Like others pointed out the phone itself is yours so you can sell and what not~ Just make sure the SIM you have is not locked into that particular mobile. Test before you get another mobile... Now the contracts you signed to get the phone more than likely stipulates that you are under obligation to pay for the set minimum fee for the duration of contract and to unlock the phone you will need to pay the fee and if you want to terminate the contract early there would be the penalty fee involved - usually the cost of phone minus whatever you paid so far... Remember you said you get the phone free with the contract. This is in fact incorrect. What you've done is entering the binding contract where 3 will give you the phone to use under the contract and you as the user will require to pay the installment for the cost of phone spread over the course of contract. Sure it sounds sexy to get the free mobile as long as you sign the piece of paper from marketing point of view... ^ ^;
So my sim is not locked into my current phone and the new one i am wanting is offered by 3 on their pay monthly contracts and i think its also offered on PAYG as well so i know it will work with my sim.
Awesome!! That certainly makes things easy for you. I am not sure where you are located exactly, but if you are not adventurous enough to attempt an unlock alone, Your provider may do it for you after a certain period of time under contract.
I may just be adventurous enough to unlock my phone myself as i've done flashing of a k750 into w800 and debranded a few SE phones.
Dude it's a FREE phone..Yes I have read all of your ad nauseum posts about nothing being free, but really for all intents and purposes it is. If he had opted to not receive a phone at all and just pay for the contract it would not have been any cheaper. Even if something goes terribly wrong, and I can't imagine what would. It's not like he's really out anything at all as he will have purchased a replacement before he even tries it. Besides, I have never heard of unlocking a phone voiding the waranty. All you are doing is returning it to its' standard OEM state. If it does void anything then oh well he's going to sell it anyway Anyway good luck with the unlock!
at least it is over here. -__-; Saying that I've done my share of unlocking when I was in that business but that's now in the past. I was just pointing things out so he's informed. Never my intention to stop him doing what he has in mind first place - he said it's first time he got the contract...
