Spinning off from the Retro core II thread is this I had mentioned something along the lines of The Saturn being able to possibily pull off SF III the reply was this... This was too interesting a topic to lock to thread so I'm making it it's own There was a rumor (granted it was a Quartermann rumor) that SF III was going to slap some expansion on the back to pull off SF III If I'm not mistaken I think the Saturn's Highest resolution was SF III's resolution so maybe a Ram Cart/ROM cart could have been used. Even on the Dreamcast there were a few little issues with SF III (VERY minor ones like screen tearing and elena not moving as fluidly in NG and SI) I don't know enough about the CPS 3 to really know how it did the Cart/CD combo dealy either. I think we all know the Saturn was capable of doing far more than we saw it do.
Isn't the main issue simply just ram space for SF3? The CPS3 CPU was pretty much identical to the saturn (SH-2). I think in general the saturn could have handled it but it wouldn't have enough ram to store all the needed sprite work (not sure if even the 4MB cart would have been enough).
The Saturn could have pulled off SFIII if it had more memory. The CPU was easily up to the job. As subbie pointed out, the CPU in SFIII wasn't that much better if at all better than the Saturn's SH-2. Yakumo
Ram+ ROM cart maybe? I had heard it was at one point in development but I'm not sure how far along they were porting it over. 6-8 MB ram Cart? I can't varify the Elena rumor as my Dreamcast doesn't like playing my Japanese Copy of W Impact and W Impact doesn't emulate well in Deml.
UK Sega Saturn magazine said it was in development at one point. If animations were cut down then it could have done it. Arcade perfect? Nope.
are the dreamcast versions even arcade perfect? 3rd strike I know wasn't (graphical glitches, music transition wasn't right) I can't varify New Generation and 2nd Impact thought
