32X/Megadrive Dongle?

    Finally got hold of one of these elusive "Dongles". It appears to make no differance to any game i play, attached or not. Thought you might like a picture of the back, circuit side. maybe someone knows what it does. it looks like most of the top row of pins dont even connect to anything? The instructions say that it should be used when playing 32x games WITHOUT a Mega/Sega cd connected??? It seems they only came with the US systems and not the JAP or UK/pal ones, I thought all 32x's were identical internally (except for region )...

    It seems to tie the data signals to ground (the black spots are resistors).
    I even did not know such thing existed

    It's a bus terminator.

    Bus terminator Calpis?? Any ideas why the us system would need this and not the pal and jap ones

    It's not necessary, just recommended. Terminators are used to stop high speed signal reflections, but in this case it also stops the long traces to the expansion bus from transmitting radio signals to comply with FCC regulations or something.

    There is a similar device for the Dreamcast, except like other G2 devices it has it's own plastic cover to fit onto the system, looks just like a modem or bba but with no port on the back.
