I am in possession of a PAL Mega Drive Model 1, PAL Mega CD Model 1, and NTSC 32X. Yet I have a bit of a problem. Whenever I try to play via the 32X, it does not display an image from the output. Could it be because of the AV Cord I am using, an RCA to 32X cord made by a generic company, or could it be something else? I know that the 32X elsewhere works fine, since I am able to play the Mega Drive produced element of the 32X Game via the Mega Drive output cable. So is there some way of modding it so that I can gain easy access to the video signal via RCA again? I really would like to know, so I can play the 32X games, in the manner it was meant to be intended.
I think the issue is that you are using an NTSC 32X. The pal 32x should look more something along these guidelines http://www.gamesstationretro.com/images/sega32x loose 1.jpg however don't quote me because I do not know too much about 32x related stuff
You could try an official Sega Mega drive to 32x lead, just to rule the generic one out of the equation. And you say the 32x works elsewhere? Is it on another PAL Mega drive? Same leads ect? Ive had some success using my NTSC U 32x on my PAL Mega drives, but games like Doom and Chaotix won't display correctly, PAL/NTSC 50/60Hz? Some boot and some won't boot at all "Data data data, I can't make bricks without clay" (sherlock Holmes)
You would have to mod your 32x to have the same region as the mega drive. You can play 16 bit games as the 32x is simply a pass through. Better yet mod everything for region free goodness. If you are using composite and a pal tv you may need to change the crystal in the 32x for a pal one (4.43mhz).
my understanding is when the cable from the 32x to the mega drive is missing or malfunctioning you see backgrounds but not sprites like characters. He is saying he sees nothing
