posted in the hacks forum yesterday about my Neptune.. no problems it works fine, but only with 32x games and NOT any megadrive games?? ive cleaned the carts and the cart slot with PCB cleaner and cotton buds(cutips) and still nothing.. The stangest thing is though, when i plug in another 32x (Dont ask) with NO power or cables to it... NONE.. all my megadrive games work perfectly???? so in fact its a megadrive with a 32x in the top and then another 32x in the top :noooo: .
Is my neptune "stuck" in 32x mode and just wont boot the megadrive games? or is it a wrongly soldered pin? if so how does the second 32x fix this?? Anybody got any ideas.....

The 32x is supposed to act as a passthrough, some games won't work like Virtua Racing but I've never once heard about genny titles never working.

You could try swapping in a different 32x but that is an awful lot of work.

The 32x is disabled by default... So i don't see how it could get enabled automatically, lol.
Also, 32x games boots in megadrive mode (before enabling 32x) so the fact 32x cartridges boots is just strange...

Maybe a shielding issue (grounding) ? I remember most 32x cartridge have additional shield/grounding system compared to megadrive ones.

Wow, I remember coding the 32X. I coded a mode-7 type floor and split the work over both SH2s. You know, I had about 2 weeks to do all the stuff on it so I didn'tr have chance to do a multi-channel sample player. Of course, Sega never mentioned that you were MEANT to use those 2 channels for 100% sample audio.
I know we didn't on BC Racer... Great processer, the SH series.

That really interesting.. did you do any work we may recognise or have you any code samples left, also if you can say what titles did you work on..

Yeah, interesting stuff. Any more tales of 32X/Megadrive coding?

I guess the replacement of the felide constructors on the GNU compilers is the most widely known. Some other guy at Core put his name on it to get a job. Needless to say, he was clueless and was fired after 6 months. Unlike the SH1, the SH2 had a hardware divide (but you had to write to $ffffff80 onwards). I also swapped the shifts so that a shift 16 wasn't 16 shifts but a SWAP.
