I got done playing Silent Hill 2, which was made "compatible" by Microsoft in late 2007. Low and behold it has tons of issues, and shouldn't even be on the list. It makes me wonder if other titles have such issues like this. I have an article up on my site about it, which goes into detail on the issues, with screens and such. http://www.the-horror.com/?id=features&s=sh2360
The thing is alot of xbox 1 games have major problems when they are first added to the list that makes them either work bad or are unplayable. I remember when Ninja Gaiden was first added it lagged so much in some levels it was unplayable. The good thing is with the next updates to come out they fixed alot of the problems.
What the hell? I played through the first hour of the game on my 360 a few weeks ago and had no problems at all! That's really weird. Maybe I just haven't come across them but I didn't have any issue except the annoyance of the black bars when using widescreen. At least Xbox's are cheap nowadays! I really like the Xbox version vs. PS2.
Bought Munch's Oddysee to play on my 360 and everything was semi-working, certainly playable until I found out that none of the voice work was audible...just a slight problem there considering the game mechanics.
Street Fighter III 3rd strike has a few issues and Mega Man 8 has a ton of slowdown and graphical flaws.
I don't have very high hopes for continued backward compatibility updates now that the online Xbox 1 titles are available. Everything I hear from the gaming press appears to indicate that Microsoft is done coding changes to the emulation, now that they've created everything they need to support a selected list of downloadable games. The lesson I've taken from this generation of game machines is not to give up the older hardware.
Was just about to bring 3rd strike in to this. The slow downs on some levels (Yun and Yangs level is really bad) are incredible. PS2 version is still the best around unless your playing the arcade version of course
Try playing Thief III on a 360. The game plays well and the graphics are all rendered properly, but there is one minor issue...you can see anything with a light source (ie: guards carrying torches, items in treasure chests,) through any solid wall. Kind of makes for an easier game. That's why I keep my old Xboxs hooked up. BC is a nice to have, but you can't beat the real hardware in most cases.
Well, when it works, it upscales, and it's all on one system. On my HDTV, old games like Conker look better over HDMI/VGA/Component then over Component on the old Xbox. There's suppose to be other graphical enhancements too, but I dunno.
I haven't played an original Xbox game in a looooong time. The Xbox games are sort of in a between stage. Their graphics aren't nearly as good as current gen and they aren't nostalgic enough, like PSX, 64 and earlier, to make me want to go back and play them. That's just me.
BC is an absolute joke on Xbox, nearly every game i've played has had a terrible framerate, many lack widescreen or have sound glitches, the only game I think ran really well was Fatal Frame II. My Xbox broke a while ago and I thought I wouldn't need to buy another one but I recently did because BC sucks so much.
Considering it was added in at the last minute, I think BC is actually pretty remarkable stuff when you consider all the hurdles and workarounds the dev team had to overcome.
The fact that it is entirely software and on totally different hardware, it's pretty sweet. And it's not exactly like every single "listed" title behaves like Silent Hill 2 does when it acts up. Most games with "issues" are usually just "additional demos does not work", "FMVs skips", "Framerate drops" and/or some sort of "2D layer" related issue (Usually creating odd borders in some sort of menu stuff, or worst case, making 2D fighters look like Mozaic Tournament II) I guess the backwards compatibility on the 360 is still in work. The Xbox Originals is pretty much proof of that. (And I guess the way to rake in a little bit of cash on the otherwise free resource demanding addition) What I find more confusing is when something has a full or partial hardware based backwards compatibility, and yet there are odd compatibility issues (or just missing features and/or support)
I think the whole Xbox Originals and BC would be used a lot more if they could somehow add achievements or something. That would be cool, give some of us a reason to replay stuff.
I have to say that even though I love the general idea and concept of the achievement system. I hate the e-penis factor of it. But yeah, making achivements around the Xbox originals shouldn't be "that hard". The "easy way out" would just be to create some sort of system that works outside or ontop of the game and recognizes certain conditions within the game. (By let's say checking data from save file, checking when specific data gets accessed for the first time, when a certain in-game memory value reaches ## and such) Problem is mostly getting around to do it. Though, I guess if "demand is high enough" and the Xbox Originals "kick off", they'll probably put it into consideration.
they would have had a million downloads if they fixed Halo:CE and had online play. they wouldn't even have to have all the matchmaking and stuff like Halo 3. just good 16 player support over Live.
I hear that, same thing with me, caused RRoD! Twice! Thankfully hasn't happened since as I've been too afraid to touch the disc.. :110:
My friends and I used to play Halo 2 a LOT on the BC. Oh and Need For Speed Underground 2. No problems here!
Funny thing is that the game 'the guy game' is actually fully compatible with the 360 BC! The game got pulled after some under-age girl showed her boobs in the game! (It's actually a fun quiz game with the use of beer)
