Personally I'd buy a busted controller for parts.

I've personally purchased many of the replacement 360 thumbsticks off eBay in order to modify and use in my Dreamcast controllers. I can't tell a difference between them and the official thumbsticks. I also bet you could buy official replacement sticks off eBay as well.

I've ordered from eBay as well. They are well made. I have noticed that they can be a little difficult to install as the post opening is just tad bit smaller than on OEM.

Another option; you may consider rubber thumbstick cover grips/caps. They fit snug, making the thumb-print a little wider. I like the feel and control feels better.

thanks for all info guys , interestingly i bought a broken 360 controller some time ago and was going to use the Thumbsticks from that. But after opening it i was able to repair it in about 2 hours so i still have the Thumbstick problem.

hi Ghudda , can you link me to where you got your Thumbsticks on ebay ?. Also i definitely want the type like the originals where they have rubber on them.

Hey s8n, yeah sure thing I'll see if I can dig up the exact ones I bought when I get home and i'll get you a link. It may be difficult for me to find the exact ones though, because I bought them over a year and a half ago (but I'll certainly check).

s8n, I wasn't able to find the exact seller that I bought my thumbsticks from, so I don't want to just suggest a random seller, but what I would suggest is just buying replacement official thumbsticks, so you know the fit is perfect. It looks like someone is selling a pack of 10 thumbsticks for ~$7 here , but if you have absolutely no use for more than two of them, i'd honestly just buy something like this , which I'm sure will fit fine and feel the same as the old ones. Any thumbstick you buy will come with a rubberized cap, so don't be concerned about that.

As Venatus pointed out, another option would be to get some add-on caps for your thumbsticks instead of replacing them all-together. There are plenty of vendors that do this, such as Fosmons "performance thumb grips" here on amazon you can even see some pictures of them on controllers in the user reviews and they look nice. As a side note: Amazon also sells official thumbstick replacements as well, which will work fine.

thanks for all the info reply and links Ghudda much appreciated , i will pick some up from RichsPSXParts soon. If they don't fit or have another issue i will hunt for a broken 360 controller , interestingly in the US there's heaps to find on ebay but in Oz they are hard to pick up but im pretty persistent tho i'll find one.

    thanks again

You can also get sticks meant/sold for Dualshocks if you find some you like, they should fit just fine. At least the metal ones I bought did.

I wouldn't get rubber caps, they feel kind of loose due to the stretching they go through when installing them.
