Since it is something that many users are curious about, I made a seperate thread. We know about VGA, but most people don't use their computer monitors - having HDMI however really seems to hit the sweet spot. Too bad I don't have an HDTV It's more about informing than debating really in this case :icon_bigg I am aware that the PS3 does not currently offer DVD-upscalling, although such a feature is said to be included in a future update. Is this still the case with the PS3?
From the brief testing I did with my Elite last night, the pic quality is noticeably better on some dvd's on my particular HDTV setup through HDMI.
hey SuperGrafx does the x-box 360 Elite have better vga out ? like dreamcast I have the old 360 the vga is bad
If you buy a HDMI TV, it will almost certainly have a built-in scaler chip matched to the screen, which will most likely give you better a quality high-res image than what the XB360 Elite will produce. That isn't always the case, but usually is.
I m quite far away from that day unfortunately, no money to spare on something as cosmetic as an HD set, VGA will have to do for now
trust me, if you live in a single room, and u move from town to town and from country to country, an HD set is not ideal
I use a LCD monitor that has TV inputs (composite, svideeo, component) and ofcourse VGA but also DVI with HDCP or whatever that is. It looks sweet and is easy to take with you if you gotta move. PC style monitors are great for 360 as long as they are widescreen.
back when i bought my cheap LG flatron, it was what I could afford , 2 years ago I do wish i had an excuse to get a new vga monitor like the one u describe however
360 with vga cable is an atrocity. I am still stuck with that $40 piece of shit cable. HDMI for the win
Whats so bad about it? On my TV it's nicer then component (but it's cheap). Plus now I can grab my smaller PC LCD and take it to someones house, hehe. You need it for DVD upscaling right? Is there some option I need to enable? I don't see a big difference.
Whoa, really? but thats becos of the cable or cuz the X360 looks bad on VGA no matter what you use?
i personally preferr my 360 on component rather than vga (beside which my tv only supports 720p on vga, whereas component input is 1080p whilst the vga did give more of a vivid colour, i find that the component was better over all for definition and also the vga overscanned the image too much on the screen, and couldnt adjust it to view the whole screen.
diddydon, so you re saying that your screen is not ideal for PC use? I was thinking of replacing my VGA monitor all together if I ever got an HDTV. (although my graphic's board supports DVi, which in turn is just an adaptor away from HDMI )
Depends on the TV I guess. Component looks nice but I haven't tried it with VGA (since my TV doesn't have a VGA in). If you're using a monitor it should be native to either 1280x720 or 1920x1080 otherwise the scaler of the monitor is going to make it look a bit dodgy.
Makes me glad I never bought the VGA cable. I've been playing my 360 on my HDTV with Component cables since launch, and ever since I went HDMI the difference is noticeable. Edges and fonts seem more defined...textures in particular seem to "pop" just a bit more from the screen as well. All in all, it's been a worthwhile upgrade for me.
no, not saying that at all, when its hooked up to my laptop, running 1024*768*60hz (my laptop doesnt supporrt widescreen resolutions) it looks fantastic, been playing old ps1 games through epsxe, tekken3and gran turismo look the buisness! back to topic, imo, running a 360 is much better through component (on my tv anyways) and if i recall, you cant play upscaled dvds through vga anyways, not that it matters to me much as have my beast of a old x60 running xbmc at 1080i which looks stunning!
