I'm thinking about getting one but I don't really know where to start. Can someone just give me the 411 on what stick is best to get, should I mod it or not, any good online/in store deals you have, etc. I also plan on making my own design and printing it on sticker paper so I'm aiming for just a plain one with no design on it. Thanks!
If possible, get the SF4 Tournament edition. I got one for $110. Quality part and sturdy design. If its between the SF4 Fight Stick and the Hori Stick, I like the Hori better. The SF4 Stick has the buttons layed out at an ark, which i dont like. Both of these have a 4 way gate, which make then a little harder to use for motion characters, though fine if you use charge characters. I originally had a SF4 stick for $75, and after realizing that part would cost about $50, I returned it and got the T.E. stick.
I'm kind of low on cash right now, so I'm aiming for a 60-80 price range on a fighting stick. That's why I wanted a plain one.. Not a SF one or something.
If you already own a nice arcade stick for another console, you could "padhack" a controller for another console, and hook that controller up to your stick. I have done this with my virtua stick so I can use it with quite a few consoles.
I do not own another fighting stick for anything. This will be the first one I'm getting.. I got everything down, I just need to find a good deal on one, anybody?
Is that the black one? I was looking at the hori fighting stick Ex 2, cause it's pretty cheap and what not, on amazon the real arcade pro one is 130 and I can't really pitch that out right now ;-;
I got the SFIV TE stick recently, and it's incredibly good (dunno what GodOfHardcore was talking about, must have meant the SE fightstick), quality Sanwa parts and a nice big case. Sure, it's relatively expensive, but you gotta remember you get what you pay for, and in this case that means real arcade parts and good build quality. I've also got a Hori EX2; compared to the TE Fightstick it's obviously much worse (especially the much less accurate stick), but in the price range you mentioned, it would probably be the best choice, since there have been plenty of quality issues with the SE SFIV stick.
Yeah well the 130 is worth it, the Non tournament SF IV is trash. I had them for a few days Both had stick issues
TE are horrible. Far too big for my liking. Get a regular stick like a Hori Fighting Stick 3 or a Hori EX2 and swap out the buttons and stick for sanwa parts. Shouldn't cost that much at all.
As an aside there is a Tekken 6 bundle that comes with a wireless Hori stick. Not sure what it will be like, but having a wireless stick might be good.
Read around on the web. People say it's crap. If you want to mod it you'll have to desolder PCBs and solder them back on plus you'll spend another USD 50-60 on parts. Also don't forget the time for the work.
If you can find it for around USD 100, then yes. But the amazon.com price is 129 while the EX-SE is only 139 and already comes with Seimitsu stick and buttons.
The naming is indeed confusing, so here's a breakdown: Hori Fighting Stick EX2 - the cheap one (40-60 USD), has Hori stick and buttons with PCBs soldered onto them, difficult to mod Hori Real Arcade Pro EX - costs around 100-129 USD, has Sanwa stick and Hori buttons with quick disconnects, easy to mod Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE - same as above but with Seimitsu stick and buttons, priced USD 139, to be released in the USA on Oct. 13 Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SA - same as above but with Sanwa stick and buttons, found on Hori's online shop in Japan (horistore.com)
Wiring was about £3, soldering iron was £3, solder was another £3. About two hours work. And I was using a 360 pad in a Saturn stick, so I had to hack the pad first.
Hmmm... I thought we were talking about modding the Fighting Stick EX2 with Sanwa and Seimitsu parts. My point being that it's not worth the time and money when there are good alternatives available. But, whatever. I agree that it's a good experience and very rewarding to do the work. Modded a Dreamcast stick myself.
