I m getting a new Slim 250 for my birthday but I m confused as to how I ll transfer my stuff from my existing launch XBOX 360. Is there a difference between using the transfer cable and using a USB storage device? I read somewhere that XBOX ORIGINAL/emulated save files don't carry over, can someone clarify what is and what isn't transferable? do I need to register my username to the new console's serial number? (although i don't recall entering any serial numbers when I joined live in 2006)
I'm getting the halo reach xbox slim tomorrow, and the guy at the shop said it will come with a transfer cable and I could move everything except installed games to the new box. The only time you should need to enter serial # is when you register the console...you might want to transfer your xbox live arcade licences to the new xbox too if you've got some live arcade games.
you can just take it out of the case and stick it inside a 4gb slim, it has a standard sata connector so it just connects.
Yes, but of course that doesn't help them transfer the data from the hard drive they have to their new hard drive in the 250GB Slim. To be honest, I'm quite confused regarding transferring data too. I've recently picked up a 120GB drive second-hand (with no transfer cable) and I heard that the 3rd party transfer cables you can find for a pittance on eBay don't work to transfer from hard drive to 360. Is that true?
Get an old 1-2GB USB flash drive, format it on the 360, transfer your saves. All 360s have dashboard updates now that let you transfer content to and from a 360-formatted flash drive.
I will update then. I don't own any Live Arcade games actually, so there's no fear of messing up anything? I m mostly concerned with my xbox original saves, as I play Shenmue II and Conker every now and then.
Just delete all installed 360 games first, you can't transfer them anyway. Not sure about DLC, but you'll have to do a license transfer anyway if you wanna play without being signed into Live.
You need to transfer the hdd into the enclosure of the new slim console, you just plug it in and all your files should work. You then need to goto xbox.com and do a license transfer to your new console, this way you can play xbl and dlc offline on that console
I just put a 2gig sd card in my gp2x (a psp should work too) formatted it on the xbox and did the transfer with that.
Surprised with the number of people going 'just put the old drive in the new console'. Maybe I'm missing something, but replacing the 250GB hard drive in the new console with a 20GB one from your old kit seems like madness! Good thought on the 'delete all the games, and just copy the rest over using a USB stick'. I think I'll take that route, as it seems the cheapest option (and the most useful thing to own in the long run )
Can you get a hdd transfer cable? I don't know if you can copy xbox1 saves to pendrive, but you can copy them to PC with the transfer cable, then copy to your new hdd.
