I have a 360 with a sticky drive tray, usually a stern tap on the top will free it.

I've just opened it all up, should I use some silicone grease on the gears? I've seen videos on youtube of people removing the rubber band and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol - is that right or wrong?

It's usually the drive belt. You can buy 10 belts for like $3-5 on ebay. But you can also try cleaning everything and take the belt off, soak it in hot water for a minute, let it dry and reuse it...

Thanks man, I'll order up a new belt. Also noticed it's not reading discs... new laser needed?

You can tweak the POT on the laser and that should fix that for a while. As for the stickiness I usually boil the drive belt in water for 2 minutes then clean the gears with gear lube. I buy special stuff made for it because a lot of greases will corrode the plastic in the drive.

Thanks dude, I've tweaked the pot down to 3.5 and it's started reading a couple of games I've thrown at it. I'm guessing this means the laser is on the way out?
