So my wired controller is having some issues at the base of the USB cable, it seems to be cutting in and out of power most likely due to being wrapped up too many times and the wires on the insides have become weak or broken. Is there any easy way to fix this type of issue? Like, can I open it up, strip back the wires and create a more solid connection? Or would this type of issue require replacing the entire cable? I'd prefer not to buy another controller just yet and there's no point in not opening up a broken controller, so if there is anything I can do to fix it it's worth me giving it a shot. Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I don't see any reason you can't just cut the cable and solder the wires back together. Then just wrap it up with some electrical tape. It would probably be easier to hack off the end of an old printer usb cable a couple inches in. Then connect that back to your 360 remote.

if you want it *sort* of like new you can pull the cable inside (you will probably have to work your way around the plastic mount that goes into the controller with a precision screw driver then pull the whole wire through) cut the wire either side of the damaged section and twist/solder the wires and cover in tape/heatshrink and then super glue around the plastic mount thing so the wire doesn't get pulled loose again and put it back together

if you dont mind the aesthetics and don't want to open it up you can always go the route of cutting the plastic mount thing back and joining the wires up there....but i usually do the first option on stuff like this as it will look much better with no visible damage

The correct way would be to pull the cable through the grommet and cut, strip and solder to the Pcb.
there should be a locking loop that the cable goes through, inside the controller, no need for super glue or electrical tape.

yeah i haven't really taken a proper look in the 360 wired controllers in years iirc the usb cable is in one of the plastic header things which can be a pain to get off, but i have done a few snes power supplies and usually trim and resolder properly, but i dont really know the OP's level of experience or even if he has soldering equipment....or even if he could be bothered if he did, i know personally for a usb 360 pad i wouldn't be bothered breaking out the soldering iron and stuff i would just trim join and tape it up, as long as its secure on the locking loop and grommet(nice to know their name) i wouldn't really worry about it

if it was something more expensive or if i planned to resell or something i would probably take the extra time and make it neat but for personal use i would be fine with a quick splice job :p

also i would still recommend a bit of super glue around the grommet, they tend to feel a bit loose if they are left unbonded to the wire itself and even with the locking loop it can still get pulled at gradually over time

anyways each to their own, just sharing how i would go about it :)
