Hey guys Reticon just launched their website yesterday, go check them out ask questions about their new 3d game in development for dreamcast, ios, and android. The game is called Tahi and there was thread last year about it. here is the link http://www.reticonentertainment.org/
Have to love websites that come up blank due to noscript, even when you allow their domain name thru. Guess they don't want to checking out what they have, because I have a policy of not allowing most noscript blocked links thru. Mainly when you get a choice of 20...
Originally, the game was to be made for Dreamcast and possibly Xbox (original) due to both these consoles being listed on their original website. The game went cold for some time and resumed again in 2011-12 by this point they decided to release the engine for other Dreamcast developers - some might say that they lost sight of the game they were creating and had good intentions but a few folk in the Scene I've talked to never believed the game would come out. I guess they were right, Reticon didn't show much of the game and to be honest, there probably wasn't much of it anyway. Shame, it could have been something really special.
The game isn't being cancelled and neither is the engine. Reticon just decided to post pone it since they need more money for it and so they decided to finish their other game called Paniq which is going to be on mobile devices. They were going to launch a kickstarter but they were afraid it was going to fail.
DUDE instead of just saying because I say so, why don't you come with some hard proofs. Because what chao2 says is the announcement they had made "Due to the ever-growing production demand of TAHI and our limited resources and funds, the Reticon team has decided to put the project on hold until Reticon can acquire the needed resources to complete the game in the vision that it was intended." ... "To help expidite this and gain the necessary, stable revenue to continue the game, the Reticon team has begun another production, far smaller than that of TAHI known as 'paniq'. A four player 'Tetris-meets-StarCraft' real time strategy game that is set to release on all major platforms as well as a 'lite' version for online play."
The 'hard proofs' is in the transcript you just posted, 'dude'. Instead of coming here and taking a passive-aggressive swipe at me for lacking some form of evidence, why don't you look back at what's already there, why would you get far enough to announce a Kickstarter then all of a sudden cancel it - see the use of the word 'CANCEL' there? Very little was shown of Tahi, I'm fully aware that a product existed, Frank Lima was very vocal about an engine created and that was put in more importance than the product it was spawned from, now they are working on a different game, why would they just up and leave Tahi in all seriousness? I think that's admitting that their ideas were far in advance of their practicality. If it does come out one day I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy to see it, I would. I've personally Benin contact with the team numerous times and that's where I base the statement that postpone and cancel are very similar words and in videogaming? They often mean the same thing. so rather than giving me attitude, back up for a second and realise I'm not putting the project down. Chill out.
I don't want this discussion to last forever, since I'm pretty sure we do not get an agreement. but cancel and postpone are not the same at all. A postpone like this will often result in a cancel, but they are certainly not the same. and to the topic why: they need additional resources and funds - I would say this is pretty much written in their announcement. I don't want to nitpick too much, but I would say you are the one that gives the biggest attitude
If something is postponed and there isn't a date given to when it's resumed - that's effectively cancelled. I didn't say the words mean the same thing, I said in the videogame industry they often lead to being the same outcome. I'm not here to agree/disagree with you, I honestly couldn't care less. If the game comes out then cool, bro; we all win. If it doesn't then I won't say I told you so.
Ok so. Every single game for the xbox one and ps4 has been cancelled, if they all come out we all win but if any of them doesn't come out then you know I was right. Win win situation for me, lose lose situation for anyone who disagrees with me. In the real world, cancelled is different to putting something on hiatus. It might never make it back from hiatus, but they say they want to. If they didn't think they'd get back to it then they would have cancelled it.
*Face palm* sigh, yes mate I'm not saying they don't want to, I'm not saying it's gone forever. But for NOW it's almost certainly cancelled whilst they work on their other game. Jesus, what is everyone on a high horse here? Talking about Xbox One and PS4 is far different from an independent Dreamcast game that ambitiously (some could argue overly so) is made in 3D with a dedicated engine by a team of guys who've just finished college (thus lacking time due to 'real' life commitments) and live in different areas now. Frank Lima has often stated how difficult the Dreamcast is to realize the scope of the game - the machine isn't changing spec so why would they continue developing for the machine when the fan base - let's face facts here, is drying up with each passing year. Again, I feel the need to state that I have NOTHING against Tahi or the development team. Also, don't think I'm doubting anyone else's opinion - I want to see more DC games as much as the next fan all I'm saying is I believe the game has gone - that's my take on the Dreamcast scene today, I would have been far more positive on Tahi if there was at least some gameplay shown rather than target renders from PC.
