I'm weak and i might jump the 3D hdtv bandwagon as soon as they'll release them.

The entry level for Panasonic is a 50" plasma with one pair of glasses for around $1800-2200 and i read somewhere that they are available at Best Buy in USA. Price in Japan is around 310 000 yens and it will be available at the end of april. Additional pair is 9900 yens. Reference is TH-P50VT2

Sony will start the 3D range led screens with a 40" and two pairs of glasses for around 290 000 yens early in june. Reference is KDL-40LX900

What do you guys think of these products ? Anyone interested in buying one of these ?

I would wait. It's never recommendable to buy first-generation models of a new technology, as interesting as it may is.

I was just surprised to see that 3D tv's are not as pricey as i would think (nearly the same price of high end lcd full hd tv's) and i was considering to take the step of 3D as i'm running a cheap 720p for quite some time now.

Heck, it always sucks to be an early adopter anyway...

If your in the market for a new TV and what your looking at is relatively the same price, why not. I agree with Ave though. Make sure to at least get an extended warranty and such, who knows what sort of problems it could have.

Something tells me these aren't going to catch on, or if they are it's going to take a very long time.

I am in no rush for this, only thing that really will support it well is avatar right now. I myself am waiting for sony's 3d tech that doesn't require glasses to be released and become standard.

Found this somewhere. Sums up what 3D is all about:

3D is going to be a gimmick for movie fanatics. Like Laserdisc, Digital VHS,...

Not to forget everyone watching the TV will need to use the glasses. And the TV will probably be sold with just 1. And they aren't cheap either. To me is just another new thing for electronic companies to cash in, since HDTV's and Blu-ray haven' really being as succesful as they wanted / hoped.

They could hold this, and focus on getting cheaper HDTV's and 24h full HD TV programming.

I made a thread about them here about 2 weeks ago.

The Panasonic Plasma 3DTV looks good but has some jittering...it could be better.

The samsung 3D LED has a lot of bluring and lag.

the 3D Effect is cool but I wouldn't buy it for that. I'd prefer a nicer tv for less money lol

Dito, I don't think this generation of 3D movies is as groundbreaking as films like Avatar make it look like. I am certainly not thinking about buying a 3DTV, it doesn't make sense to me for the couple of 3D movies that are around. Furthermore it makes everything more complicated, i.e. by the circumstantial glasses you have to put on for it.

I believe maybe the successor to this technique, if there will be one, could be interesting as long as it does not need dedicated glasses and does not use the classic shutter method.

I think we'll need dedicated 3D glasses for a long time, at least 4-6 years.
Of course prototypes of native 3D panels will occur soon but there's some issues for this technology for large diagonals and different viewing angles (you need to be straight in front of the screen)

if the 3D effect is spot on, i'm not concerned about wearing glasses at home, don't have to prove anything in my entertainment center...

The only matter is the lack of content and i was not impressed by Avatar, more excited for this about games (GT5 anyone)

    Oups sorry for double threading

some times it looks really cool, like when water splashes on the camera lens. However sometimes it just looks like the background and foreground are seperate layers. Things don't look 3D, they just look like different 2D Layers unless it's an object moving towards the camera.

I love it when people who are the kind who don't like to be helped at all, are looking at the 3D Demo and when asked if they'd like to try the glasses and say "No, I see the 3D. it's cool.", happened 3 times so far. they must blink really fucking fast.

Too bad you have to wear those glasses for 3D viewing.

Let's wait for the multi-layer LCD TV which are just behind the doors and you don't have to be worry about the glasses.

Samsung just announced 3D HDTV's here in Brazil (just like LG). Cheapest 3D capable model, 7 series (same specs as the regular 7 series, but with 3D), will cost 9.000 Reais! To put into perspective, the 6 series i just got costed less than 1/3 of that. And i even got an extra 1 year of extended warranty for free.

Just imagine how much the 8 series will cost. And the 9 series, will be sold only on 55' screen size. I bet that the thing will be more expensive than a car. Since HD content is still very limited here in Brazil, this will be aimed for rich people only, that will buy it just for Blu-ray 3d movies...
