So I just read this: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/30/movies/30lucas.html?_r=2&hpw And apparently they're doing the whole sixpack of movies 3D style... Ok, being a Star Wars fan I can certainly appreciate the fact that I get to see the movies in theaters again... But 3D?? I'm concerned about the quality of the end product here. what do you guys think? I mean, the prospect of seeing JarJar in 3D is really annoying. And could they please recast Hayden Christensen so that Anakin is not such a sissy emo boy? K tks bye!
The "last" 3 are worth watching in the cinema again but 3D, hmm......... If it was done really well then yes but some how I can't see it working. The original Toy Story in 3D was poor and that's full on CG which I guess would be easier to make in to 3D. As for JarJar, Lucas should have had one of his balls cut off for introducing that character. He single handedly ruined the movie. Well, it wasn't so great in the first place but him....shit.
Meh...the prequels already suck ass, so it's not like 3D could possibly make them any worse, and the original trilogy already had shitty CG plastered all over it, so it's not like making them 3D will be anything new.
I bet the 3D on the older movies will look like crap. Like cut-out diorama people floating over a slightly deep looking background. If the video wasn't filmed in 3D to begin with, I have my doubts as to what they can do after the fact.
 yep and as GaijinPunch pointed out, the Ewoks were fucking stupid as well. I don't understand why film makers always have to add some dumb character in to their movies.
i despise the remastered editions with the crappy cg. give me original theatrical releases or give me death. out of the prequels, i enjoy the first the most. it is one of the funniest movies ever. "Now THIS is podracing!" hahaha, cracks me up every time...
I agree about the original theatrical release, or the digital remaster of it. I never really cared for the "Special Edition" too much, and even less the DVD releases that edited shit.
Hopefully, due to Lucas releasing them in the 'new order', the takings for Episodes I-III will be so lacklustre that they never get around to the old movies.
How about instead of making a crappy 3D version of the already crappy 1997 "Special Editions" (which is what they'll probably do), they release the original versions of the first three films on Blu Ray?
a) The 1997 Special Editions have already been superseded by the less-crappy DVD Special Editions (where they fixed some of the CG and various problems, including a tweak to the infamous Han/Greedo scene to make it less plain stupid); b) There will be yet another version of the films on BluRay with more scenes added (although no other news on changes at present) for release late 2011. No idea whether they'll rerelease the original, or whether we'll still be stuck with the laserdisc version that came on the DVD. c) It's likely they'll fiddle with the CG across all the films in this 3D version. The trouble is, much like the special effects on Back To The Future and other 70s and 80s movies, the green-screen and basic composoting available doesn't work too well in the BluRay age (let alone the DVD age) and the inadequacies show. The trouble is: Lucas is a perfectionist who owns a world-leading visual effects company, and a director with very few popular films outside a particular franchise. Thus, he tweaks and tweaks and tweaks so that new audiences get the modern movie experience, and he gets his 'perfect' movie, even if fanboys with rose-tinted memories of Star Wars from their childhood bitch and moan. Lucas knows that if he rereleases a new version, no matter whether it's better or worse, fanboys will still flock to it, and kids (who have always been the target demographic for Star Wars movies, no matter what people think) will still see it as the modern sci-fi movie rather than a faded classic like 'Forbidden Planet'. If you're really that concerned with not having the original movie in high quality, you could always download one of the excellent fan remasterings of the movie (such as this one: http://fanedit.org/517/ ), which combine the editing (and recreating some of the effects) of the original movies with the remastered picture and sound.
I just want Episodes IV - VI and the Indiana Jones Trilogy (fully remastered) on normal 2D Blu-Ray. As far as I'm concerned, I - III and Kingdom of the Crystal Bollocks don't even exist. Star Wars was never made with 3D in mind, just like 99.999% of films out there. Hence, it will most likely be shite in forced 3D. If George Lucas wants a Star Wars trilogy in 3D he should just make VII - IX and complete his life's work. Edit - I've only just considered the possibility of how awesome 3D porn could be.
