I picked this up on Yahoo and finally got around to checking it out. It's a pretty cool system. I'd never seen the inside before. Looks like they took a regular 3DO REAL and built a changer and case around it. The only changes I saw were a single wire soldered in near the CD laser and rerouting of the power.

I have some video of the changer working that I'll edit over the weekend. It's pretty cool to see.

Cool. Could you show us what it looks like normally? Or is that how it normally looks?

The pics below will give you a better perspective.

The video I shot was with my camcorder which I rarely ever use. I'm a bit rusty with it so I hope it worked well.

Very nice, how do you load the discs in? Any chance of a shot of the bios splash/OS screens?

So you're the bugger who was out bidding me  :fresh:  I finally got one as well for a customer for next to nothing because the seller couldn't check it. There's been a few recently on Yahoo. I've not opened the one I have here as it's not mine to open but I can sure say it's bloody heavy !

    Now with H.264 Video Goodness:

    http://www.japan-games.com/RoboBBhighMOV.mov

The unit I have isn't functional right now. I suspect it's like the other two that were sold. The changer works properly but the unit won't load up a CD. All you get is this screen:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogDh49gHbrw

In the video I edit out some repetitive parts so you'll see the actions happening faster than in real time. The player tries to load the game for about 15 seconds then pops the CD back out. That's when you get the screen that's in the YouTube video above. It's telling you to put in a CD.

I bought a second REAL player to see if I could swap out the drives but I stopped when I found a wire that's soldered into the optical board. I don't know anything about wiring so I have a self-imposed ban from touching it. I'm hoping that it's just a problem with the game unit itself and that swapping it out will be easy for someone.

    So that's what's inside~
I've seen few of those from time to time and wondered how they are arranged inside.

Thanks for the pic and video mate! ^ ^)b

I must admit that's a pretty impressive bit of engineering, that.

    Thanks for showing us it!

How are the discs retained? It sort of like clips?

I wonder if this is intended to play video cds...

The CDs are held in place by weak, plastic tabs that give way pretty easily when the disc is pulled down by the console. The console will attempt to grab the CD 4 times before giving you an error message.

    It does play Video CDs.
