I just now noticed this so it may have started happening post-purchase, cuz I imagine I would have noticed before. The bottom screen of my 3DS has a continuous 'static' going on, particularly in grey/darker views it has vertical lines constantly creating a static type appearance. I assume this is not normal, does someone else have a 3DS and can confirm my suspicion that it is likely a hardware fault? I can see them easily if in a video view mode on the play/pause screen. They don't directly obscure the screen, more of a dark/light fluctuation. Its visible in games also, I assume its not some standard feature
yeah its a shitty camera with no real focusing mecanism, the macro mode only focuses a couple inches away. I'll try with my older cam in a few
tried with older cam, I can focus in with it but you cant see the problem well enough since the lcd pattern itself shows up so much in the picture. its definitely there tho, maybe ill go to gamestop/best buy and compare to a demo system edit: I can see the 'static' when playing a DS game too. guessing it is infact a hardware fault
Call Nintendo. My first DS had the yellow tint issue and some dead pixels. They replaced it with a brand new one.
now I turned my 3ds on and it is no longer doing the staticy stuff. guessing it must be a loose cable or something internally, hmm
I still would contact them, it shouldn't of happened in the first place. Your DS is still under warranty. Take advantage of the warranty! A new screen is better than one that chooses when to work.
He'll send it away, they'll get it, turn it on... it won't do it. Then they'll send it back. If it's something that happens on and off there is a 50% chance they will say there is nothing wrong with it.
Atleast I now KNOW the screen was showing a problem since it stopped having it. I definitely don't wanna deal with it possibly cropping up later though, hopefully nintendo will email me back or I'll just give them a call. Might just keep it with me in hopes of stopping by gamestop when its showing it
Nintendo has a very generous warranty for the first year of any of their products. I shorted out my first wii and they replaced it with another under warranty.
Habib is an Arabic name. You'd call Pradesh from India, or very likely, Carlos from Mexico. They'll just use a more "American" name. My girlfriend gives technical support on GPS systems she has never even seen in person - to customers phoning in from the States. I used to give support for a very shitty phone company in the States as well, from this very city, and we were forbidden from using our Spanish names or to specify we weren't in the States.
You can just file a warranty claim via the web. I recently sent my DSi XL in because of a few dead pixels that were visible when the background was white. A week later, my system came back with a note that they could not observe the problem but replaced the screens anyway. They also replace the outer shell. And I confirmed that the problem is fixed. So their customer/warranty service is pretty good.
Yeah, from my experiences, between the 3 console makers, Nintendo has hands down the best customer service by far. I remember when they were advertising a free game with the purchase of a Gamecube, and I bought my Gamecube from Wal-mart (only place I could get the platinum one at the time) but I got no free game. I called Nintendo and they said Wal-Mart wasn't a part of that promotion, but if I told them what game I wanted they'd send me one anyways. Very cool folks.
yeah they sent me the link to printout the shipping label on fedex.com, my screen problem wasnt anything existing in their database, hopefully theyll open er up and replace the bottom screen, or find the problem in the process. I suspect its probably a ribbon cable problem
