An Email from Nintendo JP Support reveals that the 3DS will have region codes similar to DSi and DSi LL (XL in America). :(
    Quote:
There are no Region codes in DS and DSlite
    DSi、DSi LL、3DS
    But DSI, DSILL,3DS has Regioncodes.
The Region Codes are installed in each games and the 3DS itself.
    If the codes dont match
    You cant play
If the region codes are different. For example
(or vice versa) you wont be able to play at all.

Region codes are always a really stupid move.
Makes the whole unit less attractive to many customers...

Purely because of the shitty low res 3d movie ports planned for it , namely avatar

Meh, guess is to stop the imports, price differences are sometimes bigger than shipping costs.

Nah, the DS looked pathetic compared to the PSP and it kicked that one's ass.

Considering the mass number of DS fanatics and the unending list of fuckups by sony, ninty can pretty much do whatever they want.

Unless of course sony gets its shit together, makes the PSP2 both a hardware and software powerhouse and sells it for a competitive price.

It's all about the games, and while the DS was so obsolete it shared hardware with a palm pilot, the fact is that it got a lot of great games while PSP owners were stuck playing Death Jr.

I'm still getting a 3DS but it will probably be an import and 6 months later. Bleh

oh well bring on the region free psp2!!

I kind of doubt it but it probably helps.
DSi was region locked with out any shitty ass films.

Yeah, not enough to actually make Nintendo care. ;-)

I'm not a good example either as I'll be getting both a Japanese and an European one. But even if it wasn't region locked, I would've bought both just for the 3DS DLC shops...

The good news just keep coming, huh? Nintendo can afford to do this kinda crap with their handhelds though, since a lot of people are gonna buy it no matter what. Still, this is Sony's chance to really strike back at Nintendo's dominance assuming they don't screw it up like they've been doing with the PSP for years now.
    And everything gets hacked.

Well there goes my interest of getting one when it comes out gone. The EU get proper shafted on prices and games always come out later. Living in the UK I'm not going to be paying the price it will be which is gonna be for a fact over 150 pounds I reckon and not be able to import the Japanese exclusives. Gonna wait till someone hacks the region code which we all know is gonna happen eventually.

Fuck no, it'll sell just fine. I won't be buying one for a while, but all the news that upsets the niche forum gaming crowds doesn't mean shit to the average consumer.
