This seems rather interesting, anyone who has imports might be able to use this. Heard reports saying this doesn't work with all games (apparently), and it does work on the latest firmware.

Nintendo should have made the 3DS region free to start with. This looks promising, thanks for posting.

I'm happy but kind of sad this does not work on "new 3ds" units atm. I love my imported white "New 3DS" and was looking to get a black one for my usa games but NOA is being a dick and not releasing it (just the new 3ds XL model). =|

Truth be told, there isn't that many interesting gundam games no 3DS. You're best to get your fill else where.

There are how ever jpn exclusive games that are worth playing (like the taiko no tatsujin series)

Oh wow this really does work. It failed on my first attempt with Smash bros but I forced an update to 9.4 (was 9.2), then swapped over to try theatrhythm curtain call and it worked like a charm on my white xl jpn unit. Neat and I was trying to sell this thing. Now I have a reason to hold on to it longer.

FYI guys, this doesn't work for DS games. Something to do with the thing that the 3DS loads for DS mode being loaded before this exploit is loaded or.... You know what? Let smea explain it you instead. He wrote about it elsewhere. But anyway, you can't run DSi-enhanced games (such as 5th gen Pokemon) from other regions using this exploit, which kinda sucks. Maybe one day Nintendo will remove the region-locking themselves. Yeah right.

In general, DS games are region free.

To be fair, I didn't mention it straight away, but yes, DSi-enhanced games are region-locked and those were the ones I was referring to. Regular DS games are not region-locked, however, which is a little surprising since they have region coding - I'm surprised Nintendo didn't just lock them out once they introduced the DSi, but I guess they didn't want to cause an uproar.

Too bad region-free isn't just a given for everything these days. Hell, DVDs and Blu-Rays are still region-locked (although not always with BDs - it's the more money-hungry giant corporations that make region-locked BDs).

This is interesting, but it kind of sucks that you have to be connected to the internet to use it. A lot of people use handhelds when they're traveling, and if you're on a plane or in a car, you might not have internet access - so this wouldn't work. I wonder if there could be a way to remove that limitation. I'm not too concerned since I don't have a 3DS currently, but I might eventually get another one.

Since the exploit seems to be internet-based, I wonder if the same thing could be achieved by storing the website data on the SD card and loading it from there rather than the internet.

If you have an Android device, you can use it as a hotspot to connect your 3DS to it and use an app (go have a look at the GBAtemp thread for more info on it). It's technically not internet-based - it's just that the code needed to run has to be loaded externally, so they do it via a website. Using the Android app route, you can do it without an internet connection (you don't have to share your internet connection after connecting to it as a wireless hotspot, so you don't have to worry about extra data usage and/or charges).
