I don't know how rare these are or whether the information is already widely known but I thought I would post info and pictures anyway. The console has the model number SPR-001 just like a normal 3DS XL, but has an extra (-03) to distinguish it as a demo unit console. It works just like a normal 3DS XL (can be updated, plays any EUR game etc.) except it can only be used with a charger/external power source. As soon as the external power is cut the console will switch off, and if you switch it off (using the power button) it will switch itself back on again. There is a standard 3DS XL battery which appears to work as normal. http://imgur.com/a/gV2Tw I have compared the motherboard with images of standard 3DS XL consoles and to my untrained eye there appears to be no difference. I thought there might be some kind of hardware difference or addition to implement the control of the power/charge circuitry but if there is no difference, then is it software based?
I think that all the kiosks after they are done doing. what they needed to do they are just destoryed so kiosks are rare to me. How did you get this if i may ask??
I have one eaxtly like this one.. only the serial is a lot lower (5530). I've been looking for info too for quite some time, but it seems there's none out there :-/
I think in the States some places (Target comes to mind first) actually just took the 3DS XL they had out and put in the New 3DS XL. It looks to be the same kiosk, just with the new unit and inserts for Smash instead of whatever they had before.
