Has anyone ever converted this into a retail console? I compared the pcb with a retail one and I couldn't find any differences. PWB/CPU/AU-C/SPR-01 Is it software related? If I install Luma, will that fix it? Symptoms: The console needs to be connected to a charger. It will auto power on. When I remove the charger, the console turns off. Pressing the power button turns the console off for a little, but it powers on again.
I'm pretty sure the only difference in those units is firmware. Yet with that said, they are a collectors item as is so why would you want to wreck that by trying to force it to stock retail?
It has no battery, does it? I think retail ones will not boot without a battery, even when connected to the power supply.
It has a battery. It won't start without a battery. I don't think it has any collector value. The case it's the same as a retail one. The menu it's the same. Also the case is in horrible condition, so I'd like to convert it to a retail unit. So if it's the firmware, will it work if I install luma?
Simply modding it won't "fix" it. Unfortunately there is no info online on how to solve the problem. Does yours also have the markings near the battery port on the PCB? Changing the battery also will not solve it. At this point, there isn't anything you can do.
Under the pins of the battery connector it's printed FY01 and on the retail one it's CT01. also the demo one doesn't have on the pcb the sticker with the serial number. I was hoping to be something simillar to dsi where the demo unit had some extra components under the pins of the cart slot.
I wish I had more info. I went looking and posting in the past but there isn't much hope. My guess is that there just isn't enough of these for people to really care. Just keep a charger handy for it because you can't travel with it. Seems like it's Nintendo's way of deterring theft on them. Makes it pretty pointless for thieves to take them while they're set up if they aren't good once you get it home.
To prevent theft and also to make it easier for store owners. When you cut the power off, all the consoles turns off. I guess I'll have to keep the motherboard somewhere, maybe in the future someone will find a fix.
I still haven't found a solution for the old 3ds xl. But some people found how to convert to retail the new 3ds and new 3ds xl store units. The process is the same for 2ds. You just have to move a resistor. https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/8aa54a/new_3ds_xl_demokiosk_unit_battery_fix/
I read that Reddit thread recently. Is it not simply a resistor in the original 3DS models as well? I haven't compared the boards directly to find out. Plus those resistors are really small so it could be easy at quick glace to miss it.
I've compared the boards many times and I couldn't find any differences. But my eyes are not what they used to be. Here are some pics of the demo board: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/aeucj2hwmwuqvto/AAAbJfqIcY3RLFgKjZh3TB_4a?dl=0
