So I just got my pair of TRUE 5.1 surround sound headphones in today and started messing with them. MY PC has Realtek HD audio that supports 5.1 and testing revealed everything is working properly. My headphones have 3 drivers in each cup. Front, center, and rear. The .1 bassline is channel through the front and center drivers. They work well enough for me and should be a nice addition to my Xbox since I have a Dolby decoder on it for 5.1 output that will work with these headphones. (They use 3.5mm jacks X3 for the 6 audio channels.) My question is this: Are there any places on the net that will play true surround sound? I know the major video services like Hulu and YouTube are out. But what about Netflix? I've heard it might support surround but not sure. Or am I stuck with boring stereo unless I watch a DVD or play Xbox game?
I've seen the quality of video on Netflix and frankly it wasn't astounding. It looked like a YIFY torrent, so I don't suppose the audio would be much better on them.
HuLu has fantastic quality (if you are on HuLu Plus) but the sound is in normal stereo This pisses me off because everything in my room goes through the 5.1 home cinema system. I know that XBOX Movies are in 5.1 but I don't know if that also includes the PC service.
So I searched deeply and found this: No Netflix with Dolby surround on PC under Windows 7. I could get it if I went to Windows 8 and used the Netflix app for it but I'm still wary of 8. I'll suffer with buying discs for now... EDIT: Forgot to add this. So it seems that the subwoofer and center channel lines were reversed or something. The bassline was hardly there and the center line was GOD AWFUL LOUD while playing a Dolby DTS 5.1 test video. Thankfully the Realtek audio manager has an option to switch the center and bass channels. Now the center is just slightly louder than the 4 corner channels and the bassline rattles the set on my head. Still not loud enough even at full volume. Time to find 3 headphone amps to boost the 6 channels...
