    Hi everyone,

I have this grey jap saturn, is a va 0.5 early model (oval buttons on the outside)

yesterday I tried to mod it with two switches, one for 50/60 hz and one with 3 positions for pal, jap,us.

region mod worked at first attempt but It seems I have no luck with the 50 hz.

I cutted trace between jp1 and its counterpart and solder white wire to centre of the swich and blue and pink on the other sides to feed jp1/2 with +5v and gnd.

When blue and white wires are connected I get 60 hz, but when pink and white are connected I get a very blurry picture, very very bad

    here's the photo

I also tried to get +5v and gnd from other points in the pcb but no luck, when I feed + 5v I get normal 60hz and when I feed gnd I get this messy picture

I googled for that and found controversy, someone says early grey models can't work in 50 hz mod some says is possible.

I still not tried the pin 79 method, I did it on some pal models but this japanese model doesn't have the 315-5690 chip, don't know which chip is the right one and I'm scary to get the same result....plus this early model is 3 times more annoying than other saturns in deassemble and reassamble it....I already opened it 4 times now....

    anybody could help?

    thanks

I used to own a Jap VA0.5 Saturn that I modified to work in 50Hz. So I'm pretty sure it should be possible on your Saturn as well :)

Unfortunately I can't remember the method I used, but I think I lifted the pin.
