Today a 6 year old girl was found at 5am strangled in a ditch behind her apartment block right here in Shimonoseki where I live. What makes it worse is that I knew the girl. She goes to the same nursery school as my son.

The news hasn't said anything but my wife's friend's son is a reporter for a news station (won't be named) and has confirmed that the police suspect the mother killed her daughter.

The mother was nowhere to be found at 5am when the girl was found. A fire was started at the entrance to their apartment room as well. Inside were the other two children aged 8 and 9 who escaped to the balcony.

It's thought that the mother killed the 6 year old then started the fire to kill the other two children and fled. Nothing is officially announced as of yet though.

These are the most fucked up kinds of case. If she did it and knew what she was doing then lock her in a room with nothing but photos of her kids. The death penalty is too fast and an easy way out for this type. If she was mental at the time what can you really do that she won't do to herself once the realization kicks in?

That or someone killed the mother as well... but given the Japanese tendency for female psychosis...

    Horrible.

I know that it sounds strange, but here's hoping that it WAS the mother.

Oh, it's not common, but when it happens it tends to be fairly similar.

Murder in Japan isn't that common but when they happen most murders are family based and fucked up. You all remember the one about the crazy school kid who chopped off his mothers head then took it to the police station a year or so ago.

This is the 3rd murder in this city in 10 years. Very low numbers compared to most western cities. Actually, one of the murders about 7 years back was a love triangle suicide death. The report was that the two women and guy threw themselves off a cliff.

A horrible event, and quite disturbing to happen on your own doorstep.

It's fortunate that it is not very common in Japan, but sad to hear that murder is usually caused by domestics. I guess in a strange way, though, that is kind of reassuring (less psychos on the loose and what have you).

i hope you and your son are not too affected by this.

This story was still on the news today. The TV reporters have been out side the nursery school all day. I was caught by them on the way home tonight when I went to pick up my son. I told them no comment on the situation. As you can guess, the atmosphere in the nursery school was pretty bleak.

I've only had a glance over the Japanese story (No English version as of yet) and it seems two women were involved in the incident with one being the mother. The news says that the child was suffocated.

So why is murder less common in Japan? Is it because they don't have easy access to guns? Or is it the culture of the society?

Well, no matter what people in the US say, guns kill and are far easier to kill with. However gun aren't the main reason. The UK has a no guns law yet a lot more people get killed there than Japan. It's all down to society in the end. Most Japanese murders are connected by either family or work. It's pretty rare for a "normal" murder to happen in Japan.

Just look at Japanese gamers. Most don't care for the likes of Grand Theft Auto or all those F*ing war based games. They'd rather have fantasy violence than real life violence.

I'm no expert but I think the whole "snapping" aspect comes into play. I used to live a stone's throw away from the lady that cut her husband up into 3 large pieces and took taxies to various spots around town to dump the remains. :/

I remember that story. She had to get the who apartment re-decorated to cover the blood, right?

This murder of the 6 year old girl has taken a twist. It wasn't the mother. She was filmed by security cameras in Joyfull (Spelt like that) at the time of the murder. She had been working in a bar to make a little extra money. Still a shit mother for leaving her kids at night. Anyway, it turns out that she used to have a boyfriend that beat her. She left and moved in to the apartment she's in now. The police are now suspecting this guy did it as revenge. Sounds like your typical Japanese fucked up idea but still not proof.

The little girls funeral was today. They don't wait about do they in this country. What about saying goodbye and last respects?

Well the murder could possibly create a ghost and would require immediate buddhist involvement to assure passing over.

You have four days in which to release the soul.

Yep. Literally, across the street. For the record, that was Tomigaya. Abe's parents still live there. Aso still lives in Kamiyamacho (next neighborhood over). So, just to paint that picture a little weirder.

WTF... she left the kid at home by herself? Yikes. Yeah, stupid.

In the states they're pretty quick to put people in the ground. 3 days I think is standard.
