I have a ps3 test where everything turns on properly, but it will not always output video, when it does it only does so every couple hours. There are no yellow lights or anything. The only thing it does when it works properly is work for about 3 minutes and then freezes and the screen becomes extremely garbled and pixelated. Please Help

Your gpu needs reballing. If you can find someone who does it all day. Make sure they use leaded solder not lead free crap hope this will help. I would like one of these but costs way too much. I have a 60gb ps3 had the chip reballed with lead never had a problem since its cool.

Would You Recommend a Reflow or a Reball?

I think re-flowing simply melts the (presumably lead-free) solder that's already there. It's quite possible the problem may return again with this method. Go with the re-ball.

I Think it is over heating, would a reball fix that correctly?

Some new thermal paste and double checking that your fan is working properly should keep it cool... well as cool as a ps3 can be really. Keeping it in a clean dust free area will help also.

No, it's not overheating. The thing shuts down when hot. Does beeps and such but it doesn't show corrupted video when overheating.
It just straight shuts down. (At least that's what retails do when too hot)

So, it's faulty. Send it in for repairs (it need reballing or at least reflowing)

I'm not suggesting that you should send it to SONY, just that you should sent it to someone who knows how to fix it ...
