I'm trying to understand what the hell Nintnedo did while releasing the 64DD.
I know that more than one set has been published.
I know that the 64DD has been published also in bundle with a Nintendo 64.

Now, Lingjr (sdk-team) talks about 2 different sets, one "bare unit" (but I think that it was the one bundled with the console) and a later model with RANDnet service included. And it doesn't even makes sense, since it would be easier to start selling the 64DD with the RANDnet kit, then add a bare unit, without modem and so on...

If someone can help me, adding infos, prices, dates etc...please! The 64DD is making me crazy!

RANDnet wasn't ready for launch, so Nintendo released it later in a special unit package.

I've already checked it, before asking here, but some infos I need ware missing and some that looks wrong.
The first unit launched wasn't the starter pack, but the "bare unit".
I presume that in 1999/12/01 they launched the bare unit. Was the price 30.000 yen? This first unit should have been sold trough Randnet. But Randnet wasn't ready yet...
Then, in 2000 they launched the Randnet Starter Kit, sold in stores? The price?

What about the big box, conaining both 64DD and N64?

Believe me, if you check different sites, and japanese ones too...it becomes confusing.

    Thanks for your help!

you re out of luck. Back in the UK i had some scans of the original japanese advertisments for the64DD from magazines and even in the streets. That could shed some light on the pricing issue

Babu that forum is really slow, I have been a member there for about 2 years now since I got my 64DD kit. It takes days to weeks to get respones on the forums and PMs and email take even longer.

As for the info I have no idea although I can tell you anything about the retail randnet kit as I have that one with all its packing and everything.

Good! The Starter Kit! May you check the price on the box? And eventually check if the copyright is 1999 or 2000?
    Thanks!

Yes its the starter kit. I looked all over the box but I cannot find a price. And the only date I see 1999. I dont have the BIG cardboard shipping box. I only have the yellow box with all the stirofoam (spelling?) and the manuals and things like that.

Let me know if theres anything else I can check for you.

There were a few different bundles released:

    64DD Only (blue box)
    http://www.japan-games.com/Database/images/Nintendo/N64/64DD/Blue_Box/index.htm

    Randnet 64DD Bundle (Half Set)
    http://www.japan-games.com/Database/images/Nintendo/N64/64DD/Half_Box/index.htm

    Randnet 64DD Bundle + N64 (Full Set)
    http://www.japan-games.com/Database/images/Nintendo/N64/64DD/Full_Box/index.htm

Basically, one bundle is with the console only, another is with the console plus Randnet modem and software, and the last is with the console, Randnet modem and software, and a clear N64. Both of the Randnet bundles included all of the games except for Japan Pro Golf 64 and Doshin the Giant 2. You had to buy those separately.

The Blue Box bundle (64DD only) was released on December 1, 1999 at a price of 30,000 yen.

The 64DD Randnet Bundle (Full Set) was released on December 12, 1999, at a price of 39,600. I believe it was sold through mail order only.

I don't know when the 64DD Randnet Bundle (Half Set) was released but I'm assuming it was also on December 12. I don't have a price for it.

I got that information from Japanese websites so it's only as good as the original person who posted it...

    Your help is absolutely great!

So, the Starter Kit has never been sold alone, but only bundled with a game library?
And the first "bare unit" was for sale in shops?
This would mean that Nintendo first sold trough shops, then trough Randnet.

Weren't more 64dd's actually sold through radnet, hence why it's even more scarce.

Were the games available in shops or just via Randnet?

I'm talking about both the "standard" games later released in the full and half set bundles, as well as Golf and Doshin 2.

I would have been pissed if I had brought the blue box DD to see the half set available 11 days later for only an extra 10,000 yen!
