    Hey Everyone,

How easy is it to pick a 7 pin tubular lock (Provided you have the right tools)? Do most tubular locks now use security measures like pins with different spring tensions to throw off picks? I've tried doing some locks, but I can't seem to get any pins to set. This includes doing a random giggle, slow insert, as well as trying to set each pin individually.

I'm beginning to think ether my technique is wrong (i've tried many), or the lock I am trying it on has security on it, like springs of different tensions, special pins that prevent setting, etc.

    Any ideas?

a 7 pin is almost unlockable, even with best bumping techniques. but it really depends on the manufacturer. different spring tensions? dunno, not on purpose i think. but for sure there is always a way, just a matter of patience and time. use mechatronic combined mecha locks, then your're quite sure, without big damagin tools, there's no way to crack it.

what is that project? are you in those kind of lock opener clubs? and what's the manufacturer of your lock, you're trying to crack?

    so whats your techniques?

Well, aside from just general interest, I have a friend who has an old lock for which he no longer has the key. I would have thought the older locks would be easy, but who knows.

So that being said, I have a 7 pin tubular lock pick. As for my tech, I've reset the pins on the head of it flush, and then slowly inserted it, applying tension to the right. The pin heads slowly rise as they find the depths of the lock. I was hoping at which time I would start to hear pins hitting the shear line but nothing. I even adjusted the pins after fully inserting it and I wasn't able to get any pins to set.

Lots of people say you just need to just giggle the pick, or move it around, slightly pull it out, etc, but no variation does anything useful.

So obviously this isn't a lock that can be picked with a BIC pen. As for a manufacture, I have no idea who made the lock. Its pretty non-discript. Looks like a lock on an old PC case where you could opt to lock the keyboard or not.

Trenton_net: you are basically trying to make an impression , so you can cut a new key from the impression. Or am I wrong about that ?

    What about checking http://toool.nl/ out ? or http://blackbag.nl/ ?

I lost the key to my bedroom window so tried to pick it. Didn't work so I ripped the handle off. I now have a window that has to be closed using a big paperclip with a hook on the end!

Like my old tech studies tutor used to say "If in doubt, give it a clout".

I'm usually pretty patient with stuff, but this window prevented me from smoking...

You can make an impression once you have the pick calibrated to open the lock. That's the part I can't do (>_<)! Once that's done, new keys can be cut for it.
