Don't know if it has been mentioned here yet feel free to lock the thread if it has http://www.dailytech.com/SeattleArea+Thieves+Make+Off+With+7000+Wii+U+Consoles/article29457.htm WHERES MINE ?? seriously lol
I wonder if the thiefs are aware of serial numbers and such. but maybe they just sell them in Mexico or something
I'd say something to defend my country... but really, at the price the Wii U is at right now, down here (7200 pesos for the deluxe set. That's over 500 dollars!) I'd say either way is a case of robbery. This being said, we have Internet and official releases and stuff. Serial numbers can be tracked down here too. But still, it's not like normal people can afford the Wii U.
This would be insured. And Nintendo doesn't make money on the console, just the games. So why ban the systems when people will just buy games to use on it?
Because if they didnt take action - people would steal more consoles because they dont get banned. Which would result in the insurance company increasing premiums.
What I mean is why punish people duped into buy a console that was stolen. It is contrary to a good business model. Best to track down the thieves.
Nintendo would be in serious trouble if Wii U piracy was the thing right now. If anyone was smart and knew the console was stolen, they wouldn't bother to register their console and dont use online services. It's pretty much common-sense, there goes alot of Wii-U's that cant be tracked.
Microsoft used to offer a reward to those who received a computer with a pirated version of XP - grass up your supplier and get a free key. Such an offer could be extended to buyers - tell us where you got it and we'll unban it.
So you live in mexico and bought a stolen wiiu and you report the seller to nintendo. The police stop by, and are given a wiiu each and some hush money in exchange for your address. Cartel members stop by and pull you out of your house into a car. Your body is found week later, full of drill holes and covered in burns.
Heh, it's even worse than that, Assembler. You live in Mexico. The retailer selling the WiiU at twice the price already is in cahoots with the cartels, as is the government. This retailer gave ignorant people gift cards (30 dollars per person) for their vote, so that the cartel-government-business friendly party ascended to power. You don't make enough to buy a WiiU anyway, because Congress took away most labour rights in exchange of complicity. If you do get one, the police rob you in the street and take you to an ATM to take the rest of your money. If you were able to afford a WiiU in the first place, then you probably bought it in the States. If you're smart, you stay home and play SNES and try to think of Japanese Trains and forget you live in Fucking Mexico, right next to a Country Music band that plays for the Cartels, and practises drunk at 3AM.
dude - time to move... Australia is nice and if you dont like the politicians you can call them anything you want and instead of being murdered you will probably get a pat on the back.
SOrry about saying Mexico, but if I said Belgium or Eastern europe it maybe made no sence and ... well, Cananda is a bit far to sell stolen stuff in europe.
Canada: The WiiU warehouse is accidentally left open. No one steals. Nintendo counts inventory and finds extra WiiU units somehow, because people assumed some were stolen (and bought replacements with their own money and quietly put them back in the pile). Belgium: Only 14 units are stolen because people only own bicycles. They are all caught because they stopped for waffles and beer. Eastern Europe: The stolen WiiU units are gold plated, filled with heroin, and exchanged for underage girls to be sold into sex slavery.
LOL! @Xerdo: They could send a couple of WiiUs down here, it is currently being sold at only one place and at around USD 800 !!!!!!
