I like buying video games. And theres this shop nearby that pays people extra money for more obscure consoles...so they tend to have more of them...and among those...there was a 3D0.

(Some might not consider them obscure...but I've never seen on for sale before anywhere else.)

Anyhoo...being stupid, and temporarily forgetting how bad the 3D0's games are, I bought one...for...gasp...50 bucks with 5 games, 2 controllers, and the SNES adapter. (Yeah, stupid price, but I thought I wanted it.)

I took it back to my house, cleaned it off and plugged it in. Tra la la. Messed with Total Eclipse, Kinda fun, some crappy puzzle game, made by the crappy people at WARP (Yeah, I hate their games, so what), and I just started freaking out.

I started thinking about my 50 bucks, and the fact that I would never see it again. I realized that I've paid less than half as much for cosoles about 30 times as good. Then I thouhgt about the crappy games...and then I thought about the 50 bucks...and the I thought about how I pretended I was having fun....

I called the store back really fast, stuttered something inchorent at the dude, then hung up the phone. Then, I called back, tried to calm down and told them that I flat out didn't want it. I went out to my car, sped my ass back to the store, and got rid of the piece of crap, and got my 50 bucks back...it took me hours to calm down...I was shaking for like 30 minutes.

I always thought that there truly are no bad consoles, just bad games. But I'm pretty sure that 3D0 is just an awful platform. Never has a video game console scared me at the thought of keeping it. It's a console with no quality controls, so any idiot with a couple of thousand dollars can drop a turd on it.

And I did my research too...I know theres a very few good games for the 3D0 that are so uncommon that its nuts...yet I still bought it...ugh....

Anyone else ever had a horrifying video game experience?

Yeah man, i've felt the pain. PC Engine nightmare :

Circa 1993, I wasn't playing my copy of Final Soldier on PCE, it was worth something so i'd thought i'd exchange it for something a bit different.

F1 game, F1 Pilot the name. By............PACK IN VIDEO, the anus of all videogame companies. I tried to convince myself the game was good. Not the worst thing ever, but compared to Final Soldier it was abysmal. I was only about 13 and was near to tears, so next weekend I go my Dad to go down and exchange it back. Final Soldier had been sold.

1995. Lent a buddy my PCE + SCDRom2. He was a big fan like me, took care of crap. To cut this short, while it was there the SCDRom2 blew up, or the power pack did (dodgy Console Concepts) killing the system, been broke since.

1996, I was staying at a friends house and took my PCE hucards, all loose in a ruck sack. I went to the larger festival and my buddy turns up with my bag, which was fucked anyway. We got rat assed, it started pissing down with rain so we dumped the bag believing it was empty and had taken the PCE games out.

..............got back to the house day later to find my Drunken Master, Jackie Chan, Download & Ninja Gaiden were in the bag and had been lost in the sands of time, the only game i had left was the £65 SF2 : CE which was in the machine.

To make up for it (he has been very sorry since, so he should be) he game me his pal Snes, great replacement :(

..........My PC Engine mini empire has risen again in recent years, but back then it all fell apart, with no interent I couldnt get repairs or games really, it went arse up. I think the whole experience has altered me drastically LOL

I think the 3DO is a cool system, moreover it is very hard to come across here in Holland (as is everything save for PSX's, megadrives and new stuff :Hangman: ). Back when I was in Michigan I visited a store where they sold 3DO's for $30, but the store owner convinced me it was not worth it so I got a US 32X which turned out to be of no use :smt019

Anyhow, I think what you are saying applies even more to the Tiger Game.com. *that* is a piece of shit, the anus of all videogame systems to paraphrase baseley :)
The only thing on game.com that was remotely enjoyable was the built-in solitaire game, because it lacked any animation the crap screen quality wasnt too noticeable.

Also, the Cd-i. It seems to be a system based 99% on prerendered video. Hence, most of the games are FMV games that look shitty by today's standards and the gameplay is really decrepit, too. The fact that video looks even more shitty without the VCD upgrade card, which is required by many discs doesnt make it any better :smt019
