A couple of questions regarding (fat) PS2 repair.

A couple of questions,

I bought a practially unused SCPH 30001R PS2. It's immaculate, not even the memory card had been formatted for use.

It works perfectly, while stood upright. When laying flat it struggles to read games. I'm sure the laser is like new in terms of usage hours, but I'm thinking perhaps the lubricant on the assembly has dried, or something like that that causes it not to operate properly when laying flat. Does anyone have any experience with this? I assumed if it was a bad laser it would be the other way around, and not work correctly when vertical.

Another query is, the console I have is a US one. I have a UK fat PS2 with no disc drive. Can I swap over the power supplies so I don't have to use the stepdown converter? If so does it matter which revision?

Is the US console and the UK console the same model, other than region? The last digit in the PS2 models refers to region.

 

The USA console is 30001R, UK one is 35003, which I believe is just the same as the 3000x but released with Gran Turismo.

 

Best way to find out is to open them up. If the pinouts are the same on them, you should have no problem simply swapping them.

 

30001r is not the same version as 35003.
30001r is v5/v6 can be 400c or 400r/ 35003 is v4 400b laser
Try cleaning the lens regrease the rails with some sw-92sa grease you can get from aliexpress.
