Dunno if many people here will know but whats the music collecting scene like in japan? i have no idea about music shops in japan. Theres probably quite a few stores that have used cds . but what are the best? Especially for first press cds*my favorite to collect* and what about the lesser known bands. Like old Noise and Grind cds. is it almost impossible like over here or is it a bit easier? like i said. i know nothing about how Japanese music shops are different or similar to both indie and major shops here in North America.

my question applies to Japanese bands only aswell. thanks in advance for any information.

dunno where "over here" is but if you mean europe then the metal-scene (ie anything harder than pop-rock) is a bit smaller.

they still have alot but if you compare the most well sorted japanese music shop to the most well sorted european shop theyre worlds apart.

ofcourse the japanese shops have more domestic bands but to be honest the japanese fall short of greatness almost every time it comes to regular music.
i got the idea noise is pretty big in japan tho, went to a concert with melt banana and a bunch of others while i was there, but aside from melt banana i didnt feel they were all that great (one of the acts was just a guy whailing away on a disted-the-hell-out guitar for 30mins), definetly nothing close to say alec empire..

DJing techno is pretty much the only accessible genre on a non-professional level that Japanese can compare to the rest of the world. Now that Maniac Love has closed, it might be hard to see a really, really good set w/o being lucky. There are tons of shit DJ's, but of course some very talented ones as well. Unfortunately, w/ the exception of Takkyu Ishino it seems the more famous they get, the worse they are. I can name probably 10 that can DJ circles around Ken Ishii, and rarely play outside of Japan.

Yep, that's the way it is. Makes the hunt fun, but sometimes get's really boring.

I did. Some of my old friends are still running parties, bringing DJs in from Europe, but it's a world I am no longer a part of (other than hanging out w/ these friends at non-vampire hours). I found it hard to be in that world, and the professional working one.

That, and Maniac Love shut down a year and a half ago. That was proof that the club scene in Tokyo would never be the same. :crying: :crying:
