I've got a few questions about XDKs, any help is appreciated. What's the difference between a test kit and a dev kit? Is it ever imperative to have a dev kit outside of collecting purposes? Or is it only for people who actually want to develop games from the ground up? Is a test kit good enough for most uses? Can I use a test kit to dump an XDK game disc to the HDD and/or a PC? If I imported an XDK with a sidecar from the US, would I encounter problems finding another PSU that's suitable for my country? I assume the system won't be good to go out of the box.
Test kits are used for testing games, they won't be able to do stuff like debugging code from Visual Studio or use any application that writes memory or reads memory in real time. They can dump and play titles just fine, and they can do DVD emulation. Also the PSU that are for devkits are actually 213w instead of 203w, so you you can't just use a 110v or 240v you need the dev equivalent, or you can get an adapter to use a PC PSU that is ratted higher than 213w.
uhhhh sidecars come on testkits and require a 213w psu as well... also any testkit can be made into a devkit. all you need is a file called recint.ini in the flash.
Just a different one. It simply outputs 213 watts instead of 203. Take a look here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?42218-XDK-213w-PSU&p=622451#post622451
I keep hearing everyone talk about the recint.ini, but how exactly to we convert a Test Kit to a Dev Kit?!
i must stress this again... recint.ini is a TEMPORARY solution... changing the KV with a donor KV is a complete fix. if you know what youre doing... you can even use a iso recovery to generate a dev keyvault for you. since PNET is no longer accessable recovery generated keyvaults are sufficient enough imo.
