:rambo: Hi guys. Im not sure how many of you are familier with Sonys UMD Tools kit that was leaked to the public. I used to use it for making custom Icon Movies for my PSP PSX games in XP. Tonite I was trying to use it on my newly installed Vista PC and it wouldnt boot no matter what I tryed. I tryed running in compatability and as a admin and it wouldnt start without crashing. So I got the idea to change the name of the exe from UmdStreamComposer.exe to Der.exe and what do you know, now it works fine and runs good. I deduce that in Vista MS blacklisted some exe names of illeagle exe files this being one of them. I am telling you guys this because if you have a similer problem with apps crashing in Vista you should try to rename them and see if they work. Just wanted to let everyone know!
But you wouldn't think M$ would support Sony, and also the stream player app form those tools runs fine on my Vista.
I dont know, I have Vista Ultimate and the other sony UMD tools run perfect. The only one I had to change the name of was the Compressor. I dont know why it fixed it when I changed the name, a blacklisted exe name is the only thing I can think of. Also when it was crashing and I would click check online for a fix, IE would just not open. Like it wouldnt even try to look online. I hope im wrong but it dosent look like it right now -_-
Just tried and it works fine for me without renaming, I too have Windows Vista Ultimate. *edit* While I was writing this the program crashed lol
Just havent gotten around to it yet, its possable Vista may check other things in the exe and match them with the file name as well. I posted this over at MaxConsole last night as well as here and so far I think 4 other people have already confirmed that it crashs and renaming it will fix it.
I'd be -really- surprised if Vista 'blacklisted' exe's, especially Sony's, but I guess anything's possible... methinks renaming the files fixes them for reasons other than evading some 'blacklist'
Or it could be that those programs don't run well under vista and cause it to crash and reboot?? Many old programs do this.
somone over at maxconsole said that it was made known some time ago that MS was going to let software developers prevent the running of leaked programs. How this was going to take place was unknown but the guys over there think this may be the first instance of that. Also if it was a vista error then renaming it wouldnt fix it. But hey, I guess anythings possable?
