I just came across this video on youtube for the Superslim PS3 line done at Sony Brazil. Any thought?
Very cool thanks for sharing. Wondering if this is a promo video to attract Brazilians to jobs at Sony or Sony talking about the good work they are doing for the local economy by opening up new factories?
impressive that they seem to be doing the full line production and not just final assembly (obviously much of this being done to bypass insane import tax laws there).
Xbox 360 and ONE is made here too, I know that the white 360 was an exclusive to Europe and Brazil at one point, but I am not sure if the euro units came from Brazil. Also I think that the PS3 super slim was first discovered due to an image in the Anatel site, the console was homologated to be sold here, even the 12GB version was knew there first, but it was never sold officially.
What? The original launch model of the 360 was white. They didn't even start offering different colors other than white for a year or two after it was launched.
From what i remember (not counting clones or known imported consoles): Philips: Odyssey2 (manufactured) Atari / Polyvox Patnership: Atari 2600 (manufactured) MSX: Gradiente MSX Expert / Expert Plus, Sharp Hotbit (manufactured) Tectoy/Sega Partnership: Master System and Mega Drive (manufactured), Game Gear, Sega CD, 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast (assembled) Nintendo / Playtronic Partnership: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 (manufactured), GameBoy and Gamecube (assembled or imported) NeoGeo: NeoGeo CD TopLoader (probably assembled) Microsoft: Xbox 360 Slim, Xbox One (assembled) Sony: PS2 Slim, PS3 SuperSlim (assembled)
Saturn, Dreamcast and Gamecube were imported Sega CDX appearently was initially imported because there was units like mine that came written as Genesis CDX, even if had an Assembled in Manaus sticker under the console.
Really?! I always thought they imported the parts and assembled them here, to lower import costs, even though they still sold them for ridiculous prices.
Nope, I think that Saturn also had a sticker stating that it was manufactured here, but far as I know it was always imported, and was expensive for its time, 800 Reais, which at the time the newly created Brazillian Real had worth even more than the Dollar. The Dreamcast was imported here for sure, and TecToy was an asshole enough to sell it without the 56k Modem, selling it separately.
