    That from experience gaijinpunch? :p

Although you would have to be a ugly and frankly stupid to the point where a Chav or a redneck looks like professor of common sense at Cambridge / Harvard to have that happen to you and if it does then quite frankly you do deserve it and being stabbed and left in a shallow river is probably too good for you.

A woman and a drink for $40, dim lit bar.. sounds legit. ROFL.

Also, I guess panties on a clothesline along with towels is a dead give away in any massage place.. I guess that goes for Australia only not too sure..

You may laugh, but a very similar thing actually happened to a guy I knew from University. He went off with some girl in Roppongi who promptly disappeared once they were inside a dingy little bar, he was hit with free drinks, promises the girl would return at any moment and over the course of the night some guy comes up to him saying - "you dropped your wallet" and hands it back to him.

He left the bar having paid about 10 yen for all of his drinks, frustrated that the girl had evaporated and to a bunch of calls an hour or two later just wanting to make absolutely sure that he wanted all of his money taken away from him by the various banks (probably not such a pleasant experience when you are hammered).

Obviously his cards were skimmed and he was robbed pretty professionally. But I have literally no sympathy for the guy as he only went off with the girl because he thought her affections were negotiable...

Is there any good reason why these bars never get in trouble with the police over there?

Everything is so tiny in japan...

What if you do all of that but only have about $400 worth of cash KNOWING you plan on spending 90% of it on a cheap prostitute in those places?

    Do they take your kidney?

When I was in Tokyo, I was wandering around Shinjuku with a friend and I had an experience shockingly close to this:

4000yen cover fee, there wasn't a name, we had to go up a scary elevator, it was a black guy, there were strung out filipino girls, dim lights, karaoke.

Fortunately despite already having been quite naiive to have gotten this far, we weren't entirely retarded and quit the place, well, we literally pushed our way out and ran down the stairway LOL. Could've been worse, +100 EXP life experience. Whatever.

While this story is very clear cut, it doesn't always happen in black & white. What happened to Warakia's friend is FAR more likely to happen to you in Roppongi, and kind of likely.

The scam is that some girls (that aren't bad looking) will chat you up at some bar.... a normal one. They'll get you to bar hop a bit, and eventually land on some random place. In my friends case, he ordered the 2nd cheapest bottle of champagne which was like 12,000 yen. A rip off, but whatever. The bill came for him to sign and it was 200,000 yen. Told them to fuck off. It got kind of ugly there... he took a punch in the face from one of the girls.

The kicker is, this is the card he lives off us and runs business off of -- 200,000 yen is nothing but he's been fighting Master Card on it like a mofo. So, keep that in mind.

While the scams are different, the end result is the same: Your CC number buying goods in Somalia.

And the police generally don't do shit to these "establishments" and probably won't until Tokyo hosts some international sporting events. Ask the Iranians in Shibuya how the World Cup worked out for them. ;)

And for shits & giggles, I'll give my very limited experience in this stuff. Locals know better than to talk to black people in Roppongi... well... Africans anyway. It's a shame they fuck up their names. I met a guy from Gana in the gym one time who was one of the coolest guys in town. He could have crushed my skull w/ his hands but he was just down to Earth.

Anywho, I went in a work capacity to a place on the main drag in Roppongi, and we were guided there by an African tout. For the most part, the place was on the up & up. 2 Japanese girls worked here (one was pretty fucking hot -- body tattoos and shit), but the rest were from Eastern Europe. It was mainly just a hostess bar. Nothing crazy going on out in the open, but it was a cheap all you can drink, and the strongest drinks you could imagine. They try to get you to go back to the back room, and I can only imagine what goes on there. The girl I had was pretty aggressive, and for some reason Of course I declined. All in all it was a cheap night. We were there for ages, and were plowed when we left. Not really our thing, but whatever. I imagine if you go to the back it's just up sale after up sale... no telling where it could end.

I was drunk once out on business in Tokyo, stumbled into a hostess bar guided by some African guy which had not very attractive filipina, european and some coloured girls. Had a drink put on my table immediately, two girls came beside me, the drink menu was minimum 10,000 Yen. Fortunately I was aware enough to fake a phonecall, and find an exit without someone standing over it and get the hell out of dodge.

After that, clearly not having learnt my lesson I had a massage : but told the girl I was tired and caught a cab to the hotel (so just a massage)

So it works out in my favour that Mizuho never gave me a credit card, so either I pay cash or .... oh yeah, I only use cash here in Japan.

I also have a girlfriend, so I can count my lucky stars.
