    Almost any wire? Cool.

As for the price, it is attractive. Too bad, I'd be paying $9 bucks total with S/H.

I think the mod-chip will do then. Are there any good guides that tell you how to install the chips?

I also had a problem at first trying to disc swap when I got a ps1 recently after countless attempts thought it was fake or my disc was burned wrong. I looked at YouTube vids to no avail, however I finally got it to work

what u need to do is put in the original game it spins fast to the ps log when it spins slow you have to swap to backup once that starts spinning fast then back to slow you have to then swap it back to original for a sec just when you know it's about to spin fast.

You swap it back to your backed up copy of the game you want to play.
    Hope this helps

Depends on your model and which chip you go for, but Google should sort you out with no fuss on that front.

I have a few chips left and will include 30 AWG Kynar Wire. Plus I carry Stealth Chips for the SCPH-1001.

If you open the PSone and tell me which board you have, then I can help you with the Install Diagrams. PM-41 or PM-41 (2)
Do NOT get the ONECHIP modchip, it is only for PAL systems.

Be aware if you are getting a modchip to install yourself it requires soldering to very small points on a pretty small board. The older models are easier to do generally as some have very nice size solder points.

Assuming you are in the US you'd probably want this one from that site: http://www.eurasia.nu/shop/product_info.php?cPath=52&products_id=276

Obviously with any soldering on electronics you run the risk of permanently damaging it if you don't know what you are doing. So be sure you aren't making this your first experience at soldering small electronics.

About swapping lasers, if you have to do that it is just a matter of unplugging a Ribbon Cable and a Power Cable and removing the assembly. You will have to do this to install any modchips also as you need to get at the circuit board.

If I get a PAL modchip for my euro PSOne from EurAsia will I be able to play any Japan/USA game as easy as a PAL game or do I have to convert Japan/USA ISO to Euro region first?

    @ erkan
If you get the ONECHIP modchip it will play every Domestic and Import without converting. The only thing you might have to do is a color correction mod for NTSC games to show in color and not in Black & White.

It will require soldering to the leg of a small IC, so you'd want to practice that on something dead before trying it on you PSX.
They just play, in 60Hz though so be sure your TV supports that (chances are high that it will).

Isnt this solved with an RGB cable? You mean outputing NTSC signal through a PAL machine right? On my old SCPH-1000 i used to use a RGB cable instead of RCA which came out all black and white

Also, are there any benefits (laser wise) to use a region free only chip (doesnt play cdr's) than using a chip that plays all region + cdr's? Is the region free only chip stretching less the laser or not? Just a speculation here

BTW, I will be replying to your pm tomorrow ;)

Yes and no. The only thing a modchip does is send a particular code to the system that essentially says "this disc is legit". It doesn't affect the laser directly at all.

That said, burned games tend to stress the laser more - the laser has to work harder to read them, and the drive electronics compensate by increasing the power to the laser diode, which means a shorter life span. By comparison, imported games won't stress the laser any more than region-correct games.

Either way, PSX laser units are so cheap and plentiful one way or another that it shouldn't really matter.

Has it ever been proven categorically that cd-r's will wear out a laser quicker than a retail pressed disc, 'cos I've always taken this with a pinch of salt. Back in the day you'd hear of PSX's dropping like flies and people (stupid people, anyway) would often say that chipping your machine ruined the laser but that was because back then most people bought bent games, downloading them yourself was not an option, dealers or sellers would source the cheapest, shittiest blanks they could find and burn as fast as possible to maximise profits and turnover. Obviously you're asking for trouble in that situation but if you exercise a bit of common sense and buy good quality media and burn as slowly as your setup permits your machine will last you a long, long time.
