    Dear Friends,

I would like to get an information regarding PS1 lasers from your great experiences.

I have a Sony PS1 console model 5502. Sometimes it doesn't read games, sometimes it makes voice while it's reading. I really don't want to lose it.
I think now its time to change its laser. I am confused about model numbers.

What is difference between KSM-440ADM, KSM-440AEM, KSM-440ACM, BAM etc? Which laser assembly model is of the highest quality?

Could you please suggest me the highest possible quality laser model compatible (fits) with SCPH 5502?

Is it impossible to use PsOne laser with that model?

    Thanks,
    Regards..

I was told the ACM is of the higher quality, but that has the short laser cable. If you can find an laser extension, then get that model, otherwise, I think the BAM model was in the 550x model.

I do know that the AEM model is from the 750x model, and although the cable is long, it is not long enough for the 550x.

This is how it works. 100x you can replace with ACM, or BAM if you cut the case to make it fit. Ideally use ACM. ADM is for the 500x and 700x. AEM is for 750x and 900x. BAM is for 10x (PSOne). BAM can be fitted to any PS1 if you mod the case and have a data cable extension. But ideally use a correct replacement.

AAM and ABM I believe existed in early model PS1s. ACM is the equivilent part but it is superior and will last you longer.

Note that 550x is the same as 500x, it was just a different SKU.

    Great topic.

I have to fix my very own PS1 1001. (the other one i have, another 1001, i bought last year and is working).

So for a 1001, a KSM-440ACM would be the way to go?

Instead of cutting the case, just use the top cover from an existing KSM-440AAM/ADM and replace the top one a new KSM-440BAM.

The KSM-440BAM is far better IMHO.

Why is that one better (in your opinion)? Now, what are reliable sources to buy a new KSM-440ACM or a KSM-440BAM for a SCPH-1001 PSX?

I found a place here. I don't know if its new or not. Does it also depend on the manufacturer?

The main issue with the original KSM-440ACM laser unit is the "sled" that wears down pretty fast - typically first causing FMW skipping and in the end problems booting games at all. The KSM-440BAM is the latest version and these problems have been fixed.

As for a supplier, I got all of my KSM-440BAMs from Divineo a couple of years back. I have no experience with unofficial lasers.

I did that with my 1001. You might also need to break off the plastic legs that hold the laser assembly up in place if it's too tall, thats what i did and it works like a charm.

btw, don't cut them off... just stick it in your mouth and bite them off :).

I found a link for PsOne drives. I don't want to have to do any mods, but it'll have to do since its an official product from Sony. Either that or maybe just buying another PlayStation will be a good alternative.
