Its search engine bots/spiders etc whatever you choose to call them coming in and scanning the site so that the search engines are more effective when you type in a given word/phrase etc. All forums have a funkily large number like that (even very low member forums).
Thanx kammedo, anyway before starting anything somewhere else i'm still waiting to hear something from more members. anyway i can't see why companies would get angry in a series of faq that won't reveal company secrets like pinout or way of functioning (EDIT for clarification: i mean electronic circuitry) and such. i mean we wouldn't even be showing pictures on the faqs maybe it would be a good idea to cover only older consoles in those faqs... after all we could start from the older and moving up in time we could do that or maybe i can use hosting from a friend of mine who is a private... still i'm sure that a txt format faq can't do too much mess... maybe we could host them in rar format with password and keeping the pass to forum members only... maybe i'm reckless but i have no fear that someone would bother us for just talking... and i might seriously be hosting that if it might get this page in any danger.
I can host it, but by requirement have google ads on the site. The site should be password protected and only given out through PM.
I am new to this site and think if it can be done legally, a FAQ about each system and it's lifespan in development would be great! GAMEFAN
As I said before, would a Wiki not be the best way to go? That way each person could contribute to the ideas, and it might also protect the site hosters as it is a publicly editable. Even in the terms and conditions, you could put a disclaimer, and put things about NDA's. If you ever then did get hastle, you could remove the page and put it down to the fact it was not admined lately or someother bs excuse. Just a thought
a wiki would require a lot of work, really, and it was really a problem to get everything togheter from the snes cd rom topic from wich i made a faq... think of having to control everything like that in big scale! and too much people would be modifing it at once... it's better to have a topic and then made it into a faq, or maybe to make that into a wiki page.... we'll see... i'm still waiting for words from certain members...
I have some code up for grabs, its actually might work for this, www.gamedb.xboxgalleries.com/ i need to get some bandwidth though, mabey later when i get the mons
The problem with a wicki is that as soon as we put one up, the game companies will be free to just go up and delete it.
Not necessarily, you can set up a wiki to only allow logged-in users to edit, or you can protect specific pages if you don't want to be quite so broad.
But if you do that, you might as well just be posting here as the whole point of the wicki was to be anonomous.
On a wiki, when you're not logged in, you're identified by IP address - in fact, logging in can aid anonymity, as then your IPs are not publically viewable, and thus there is no way that someone can just look at the wiki and cull IP addresses of people to go after.
I really like the sound of such a proposal. Good idea! I know when i was looking for specific info on things, I either had to use the search, which is very ineffecient, or ask people. And when you do find a good thread, you normally find 5 good threads, each with a different bit of info. Keeping an archive of collected knowledge is a brillaint idea, especially if it's archived in a nice way for easy access. Then again, you will have quite a job on your hands. Looking through this forum's topics, it goes back quite a way. And there are SO many subjects. But definately, a museum of info is needed. Which reminds me, how is ASSEMbler's official museum website coming along?
I think i'll just start and i hope that other people will help me on the way taking some tasks for themselves I'm really glad to see that so many people feels the need for a serie of such FAQs... anyway i'm still waiting for words from "certain" members.... as an off topic, i have attached a tentative ascii art for the faqs
real men do theire ascii manually edit: tried making one.. damn I had totally forogt how much I suck at ASCII might redo it when I get home. to view use a nice font like Terminal (I use Notepad with font Terminal 9px Bold)
i have waited sending him a private message, as i did know because i would have preferred to see some answer here on the topic. anyway i've asked assembler to take a look at this topic and write some comments. i hope we'll see some mex from him soon or if he'll prefer to talk privately with me i'll just give you the answer without any detail
