    Taken a long time to get there, have to admit I'm as pleased as punch at the results, hence the piccy, to give you all a 'taster' of the fun I've been having ... Enjoy :icon_bigg

    MY GOD! is that a display from a Uber rare Spectrum 2702+ from 1998, the fabled next gen 'speccy that Sir Clive himself cited as the 'The ultimate in home entertainment' that came with a free Sinclair C5?

    No, I suspect this might be the beginnings of some PS1 Dev kit output.

    Here's a piccy of the 2 metre long cable I made up...

    [IMG]

    And if anyone feels like knocking one up themselves, the pinout diagram is found here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=64936&postcount=14

    ^ Thanks to ASSEMbler.

    And here's a parts list that I've compiled using Maplin (www.maplin.co.uk) as an example:

    JW77 = HD 15 way D Plug

    CT71 = 9W DHood Shielded

    L76AW = Phono plug yellow

    L75AW = Phono plug white

    FJ88 = Phono plug red

    ...The cable was regular speaker cable that I had to hand.

    This thread was designed specifically to rub my face in the concrete and give me big facial grit burns! Every attempt to get a PS1 dev setup have fallen on it's arse thus far lol

    Well done, you...........<deleted by a passing trooper as even HE was shocked by the language>

    Can't wait to see it up and running mate - seriously, it'll be just nice to see one in action! :clap:

    Well here goes with a little bit of background information on the Dev Kit...

    The Dev P.C itself was built around 1998 specifically for a rather successful U.K gaming house! (notice I said 'U.K' and 'successful', in other words not Acclaim) :drool:

    Everything inside the P.C is dated from when it was built i.e. the company that built it put little handwritten date stickers on every component! :nod:

    ...I've not moved a single icon on the desktop, why, you might ask. Well this kit is like a time capsule, everything on it is how the developer left it when he last switched it off!!! I kid you not, there's even a folder full of softcore pron, still on the HDD, lol :fresh:

    More importantly there are two HDD's in the machine and they are full of completed versions of a popular title, and all the source code to match.

    ...Obviously all the dev software is intact, but crucially every official update that could be downloaded back in the day when this machine was in use is still sitting in a nice little folder named 'download'. :thumbsup:

    The Dev P.C itself would of been an expensive setup in its day, its all-singing-all-dancing by 1998 standards what with having a Zip drive (yesteryears equivilent of a CD writer) and the last generation of SONY PS hardware, the DTL-H2700 setup.

    The DTL-H2700 comprises of three, yes, three full length boards that take up the space of three motherboard slots yet only use one ISA slot! The 2700 is handy, in that it has a built in Performance Analyzer to speed up game development considerably. ($17,000 was the usual price for the boards)

    ...The 2700 (just like the 2500) also lets you connect and use the DTL-H2510 internal disc drive, allowing you to basically emulate a regular retail PSX, in fact the dev kit will run retail games.

    There's also the proper SONY SCSI CD-R recording unit to go with it making a lovely self contained, and self sufficient Development Kit.

    [IMG]

    The only piece of additional hardware that I 'needed', so that I could 'play' with this kit was the controller breakout box, which came through yesterday from dear 'ole LeGit.

    ...With this I was able to play a few games today, and properly test out the audio/video cable that I made specially for the job, and 'yes', it worked a treat, even had sound as well as pictures, amazingly! :love:

    More details and piccys are to be found at the usual place...

    Very nice setup oe. :thumbsup:
    And really cool that it's left exactly like it was back when it was unplugged.
