Hi Guys! A need a little help with something. Im trying to connect all my consoles into a Switch with input/ouput VGA connectors. It is posible to modify the A/V cables from de consoles with a db15 connector to transport sound through the switch and back to the A/V connectors from the TV?
It depends on the console. The Dreamcast puts out VGA natively but other (ie: older) consoles will put out RGBS 15khz but that is not totally compatible with VGA standards (RGBHV 31khz). You would need to get an upscaler to get your games to "VGA" before you could use a switch like that. Also, audio isn't transported over VGA cables.
if all your consoles use the same outputs, depending on how the switch works, you could use it to switch composite with audio.. say pins 1,2,3 on the D-15 connector are Video, L/R in theory it will work as the switch box basically just swaps lines
A simple VGA setup that I use for my retro consoles with Composite and S-Video output; consists of: * S-Video/Audio selector switch box * Composite/S-Video to VGA converter scaler * 3.5mm Male to 2xRCA Male stereo audio cable Optional * Computer speaker system S-Video/Audio selector switch box: These are abundant on eBay and Amazon …. Cost depends on how much you want to spend. They come with different numbered ports and some work by remote control. These switch boxes come standard with Composite, S-Video and RCA input/output ports. Some even have a 3.5mm output jack; so, you could use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable instead of a 3.5mm to RCA audio cable. Composite/S-Video to VGA converter scaler This converter allows you to view games (or other video) sourced by composite input, at a higher resolution through VGA output. I’m using a converter scaler from ambery.com. It works very well with my AV Famicom and JVC X’EYE consoles. Ultra Composite Video S-Video to VGA Converter Scaler: http://www.ambery.com/vitoxgacoscs.html Audio cable You are going to have to source the audio from the switch box to your TV or powered computer speakers. You can connect an RCA to 3.5mm (or 3.5mm to 3.5mm if jack available) audio cable from the switch box direct to the TV’s 3.5mm input jack … or if you have a set of computer speakers – connect to these. I use a 2.1 computer speaker system and much prefer the sound from this than from my TV.
